Amen beachbum. If the wind would subside it would be rather nice today.

It is VERY cold here. 43 degrees with howling winds.

:jacket:

But that's still not all that cold considering it's Mid-January and it's going to quickly warmup before the next storm system Tuesday into Wednesday. I don't know where the really cold air is to be honest...

We've had howling winds all day--and never got up above 33 at our house. Even with bright sunshine....

It's about 29, with a predicted low of 28 (I suspect we'll fall past that before the night is over, since it's only 8:30pm).

I'd say we got some cold here... :jacket:

I'm about to the throw in the towel for winter in the deep south. With no really cold air on the horizon and it being mid January I think we are about done for. Maybe a freeze or too in February but I think the worst was in December.

No really cold air on the horizon? Many pro mets are now beginning to predict a cold late January and early February. Hang in there, winter WILL return. They say it may even be the coldest all winter (colder than December).

Don't be so quick to throw the towel in. We may see a nice little shot of cold with this next front coming in Monday/Tuesday. Could be colder thant current progs byt the NWS.

Well hey there is always reasons to be optimistic even though it is a warm pattern because as we all have seen before it doesnt take an arctic airmass to get some wintry weather into alot of places. Just a week or so ago in this warm pattern here in Raleigh it was 65 during the afternoon and snowing at 34 by 2 am. I think the cold weather is coming, im just worried that it will be in March or even April when its really unwanted and more of a bother than an enjoyment

It didn't get as cold as forecast this morning. Now that the howling winds have subsided somewhat its rather nice outside.

January has been mild that I wonder if it will get cold. Knowing the weather here it will be freezing cold over the last three weeks of February which is when my area has their Mardi Gras parades and balls.

Global Warming

#17 Postby jimvb » Sun Jan 15, 2006 4:48 pm

I would think that global warming might be a reason for the mild weather.

This weather is sort of ominous, because if it does not get really cold in the deep south for a period of time, the GOM waters will be abnormally warm again and we will have another hurricane season full of Katrinas and Ritas from here out to Zetaville.

Global warming cuts both ways. The mild winter air keeps the heating bills down despite record prices, but global warming also manufactures hurricanes that damage our nation's ability to make and distill petroleum products.

I think that global warming plays little part in this winter. For one, we will be returning to a colder pattern over the next few weeks, and this December was one of the top ten coldest nationwide. Also, we have seen winters like this before. Back in the 60s (I want to say 64', but am not sure), there was a winter very similar to this one, and during the 60s we were also in an active hurricane period. I am not ready to blame "global warming" just yet...because some parts of the world (Asia) have actually been thier coldest in 20 years (which wouldn't make sense were it to be GLOBAL warming). I think if we start to see the ENTIRE world begin to have above average hurricane seasons and mild winters we can say global warming, but as of this point that has not happened.

Global warming has NOTHING at all to do with the mild weather. Its called a "pattern". We are in a warm pattern right now. WARM PATTERN. Obviously you haven't heard of the extreme cold and snow being observed on the other side of the globe, such as Japan. Some countries have seen their coldest winter in 20 years! And are we going to blame that on global warming too? Its nonsence. The earth has weather patterns, and the United States happens to be in a warm one right now. Oh well, it doesn't matter. If it was extremely cold right now, then people would blame it on Global Warming. Global warming enthusiasts loved last year's hurricane season. Most named storms ever, blame it on global warming!!
