Yeah, I know. Everybody wants a religious nation-state, just like NAZI Germany, or Iraq, or Iran, or any of those other countries we abhor.

I'm coming late to this discussion but I have to disagree with you here Widreman. To begin with Nazi Germany was far from a religious nation-state as was the old Iraq. Both were more along the lines of the secular state that you refer to as the "The only truly free society is the secular society" The last example that you use, Iran, is marked by it's intolerance and even persecution of other religions. Bad parallels on all three IMO.

In this country ALL people should be free to practice their religion both in public and private. The courts have forgotten what our founding fathers meant when the constitution was written.

This may get me banned, and if it does, oh well...

JJ, information is a wonderful thing and when I posted the original post I never expected it to spark this kind of response, but I am enjoying reading EVERYONE"S posts.

There are so many opinions out there regarding Christianity and God. That is what makes this country so great. There are still countries out there where if I would've posted the "Christian Rights" post, I could be executed or imprisoned. So, let freedom ring............

I have my beliefs and God is the epicenter of my life.

WM, didn't I say in my post that I don't agree with the stuff he puts out? I only put it there because it has a picture of Hitler and high-up Catholic priests. I don't agree with Jack Chick. He believes so many things that are un-Biblical. I only did it for the picture and that is all.

Justjake, we don't ban people for differing in their beliefs! That may happen on some other boards but not here! The Admins and Mods personal opinions don't have anything to do with their position on the board LOL.

As to your point, Hitler may have been a member of the Catholic church but his actions were far from the beliefs of the church. Most of the most violent wars in the history of the world have been fought under the "banner of GOD" but most had nothing to do with God.

To call Nazi-Germany a religious state is just not born out by history. Hitler came to power because of an economic depression in Germany and used the Jewish community as a scapegoat for the conditions that existed. He expounded nothing but hatred and intolerance.

I respect everyone opinions whether I agree with them or not. In the case of Widreman's post I just think he picked some bad examples for the point he was making

MF, thanks for the post. I see your point. You are right! Many people use religion to further their beliefs, and it is sad. That is why I just try to be obedient and maintain a relationship with God and steer away from religion.

He had his own half-baked ideas about the superior Arian race, and the perfect genetic society, etc. However, it is disturbing to know that the Catholic church stayed quiet during the whole affair and some members of the Catholic church, notably an Archbishop in Yugoslavia, actually participated with the NAZIs in killing the Jews.

He was after the Jews, for sure! I think they hate the Jews because it was the Jews that had Jesus crucified. But they fail to realize that Jesus was a Jew as well.

Hitler wanted power pure and simple. He other "beliefs" came from that desire and not much more. He was a master at turning others prejudices into justification for his actions. There are a lot of people that have to share blame for allowing him to wreak havok on the world. The Swiss, French, English, and yes the good ole USA. Everyone either turned a blind eye toward what was happening or decided to profit from the situation. Hopefully we learn from history

It was a poor interpretation of evolution, just like many people have made poor interpretations of the Bible and Christianity. The problem lay with Hitler and not evolution.

It's people like me throughout history who have made it possible for you to live in this great country and be able to practice whatever religion you want and be able to have all the freedoms and rights that you take for granted, so that you can turn around and say that you "don't take kindly" to folk like me.
