A little excitement - car fire

#1 Postby x-y-no » Wed Jan 18, 2006 11:12 am

So we just had some excitement here in the office. This guy ran in yelling that his car was on fire, so I grabbed our biggest extinguisher and ran out after him.

His SUV was on the side of the road - the whole center of the front console was engulfed in flame. I nearly emptied the extinguisher before it went out.

The fire department showed up a couple of minutes ago, so maybe we'll find out what caused it. Glad nobody was hurt - kinda scary that it could do that.

Is it a Ford SUV? Many of them were recalled because the cruise-control switch could spontaneously catch fire.

Car fires are scary. You never know when they might hit the gas tank and then KABOOM!

And good for you, x-y-no, for having a level head and grabbing the fire extinguisher to take care of it before it got bigger!

Now get the fire extinguisher refilled so it will be ready for the next emergency! Glad you were able to help the guy and that no one was hurt.

I read they had trouble with electrical fires in the steering column or also power steering fires caused by a leak in the power steering spraying on a hot engine.
