Dog Falls Onto Car, Killing Driver    !!

POSTED: 4:24 pm EST January 19, 2006
UPDATED: 4:55 pm EST January 19, 2006

LIVONIA, Mich. -- An 81-year-old man has died following a bizarre weekend accident in which a dog fell onto his car on a Michigan interstate.

Charles George Jetchick, of Livonia, was driving in a 1994 Ford Thunderbird in suburban Detroit Saturday, when, according to Michigan State Police, a large dog fell from the overpass and went through the car's windshield. Police said Jetchick was able to steer his car to safety, despite his injuries.

Jetchick and his passenger were transported to St. Mary's Hospital, where Jetchick died on Wednesday, police said. The passenger in the car suffered minor injuries, but doesn't remember anything other than the dog crashing through the window.

The dog, a 60- to 70-pound black Labrador retriever, died at the scene, after falling about 16 feet. Police believe the dog probably fell off the overpass by accident while trying to avoid a car.

Nothing humorous in the least about a dog falling from an overpass and dying along with the motorist driver.

I am not going to say anything rude as Pburg suggested in a previous thread. It is sad and bad luck for the driver. Wow, that just suc**.

I didn't find this humorous either. First off, it's so sad the driver died as a result of this accident. Second, my first thought was someone just tossed this dog over the rail, intentionally. So I'm glad to be found wrong on that assumption. Third, if the dog had lived he would have needed surgery and would have likely walked with a limp for the rest of his life. So on a humane level, I'm somewhat glad the dog didn't suffer long and passed away from such a severe fall. There, I hope no one takes that the wrong way.

There sure seems to be bizarre news these days. And this story is one of them. Still sad though, and definitely not humorous. Not at all.

Certainly, one of the oddest stories I've read in a long time.
