Praying for your MIL, David. Isn't it amazing how the elderly find that strength to recover? No doubt the prayers of your friends help. I'm happy to hear that she is doing better.

Still praying as well David. I'd suggest she go very easy on returning to solids after an ordeal like this. A bland diet is best, I've discovered. Or in other words, the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, white toast. Add to that, plain yogurt, baked chicken, chicken noodle soup, mashed potatoes, etc. In other words, non-spicy, comfort type foods. You'd be surprised doctors and nurses don't often understand all of this. And order a regular meal or diet! After my 8 day liquid diet, my first dinner was spicy rigatoni something or other. My ostomy nurse (it was temporary), took one look at that meal and said - I can't believe they ordered that for you. I took one look at that food and was ready to fight her for it, just so I could have real food for a change (cream of celery soup is NOT food!).

Hope you don't mind me sharing these suggestions with you. I've just learned the hard way - after being on a liquid diet, you really want to ease back into plain-plain, non-spicy solids. Slowly!

Asking for renewed prayers tonight.

My MIL is getting a blood transfusion as we speak to try and help her recover from her surgery. The problem is now that they have discovered that her mitral valve is proplapsing badly(allowing backflow of blood) and needs repair. At 88 yrs old and in her frail condition, that isn't going to happen. We're not exactly sure where that leaves us, but basically the prognosis is not good for a full recovery. She has lived a full life, but if we lose her this soon after Susan's dad(in March)it is going to be really tough on the family, especially with 2 great grandbabies due in the next month and my son's weddding in November. I know God never gives us more than we can bear and that I am probably "borrowing trouble", but I am asking vor renewed prayers that God's will be done in all of this.
