When is this camisole/lacy, skimpy top phase going to end?
I was shopping with my youngest daughter Laura, 15 for a conseravative top for Mock Trial courthouse appearances. We wandered into many Junior sections. Thank goodness she's my former tomboy b/c if not, I may have a a battle on my hands. She promptly rejects any skimpy top - I'm so proud of her!!! Her sister is a little less conservative but at least covers her midriff - whew there.
But honestly, I saw the Spring/Summer line and it's a little shocking. Course I have two teenage daughters and all....but still, I find so few of these tops and skimpy skirts as acceptable.
No replies from the guys - you love this phase and probably don't want to see it end.
I'd like to see the return of non-sleepwear fashions, for public display! Is what I'd like to see!!!! Okay, I'll admit it, I dress conservatively, my political views, liberal yes, but I just wish Victoria Secret would stay in the bedroom!
There, I'm done....comments anyone?

I was shocked at the tops I saw on display, at Penney's, in their Junior dressy section. Suits, with skimpy-lacey tops. I know I'm going to sound ancient, but none were acceptable in my opinion, in the business world. None. I don't think a single top had sleeves!
I just wish these tops would return to the bedroom, where they belong. Here's a sample of what I'm talking about....four pages of cami's:

I don't mind the camisole top UNDER something, say a cardigan or blazer--that's a cute look. But on its own, that should probably be reserved for women of age. One woman well over 'of age' took her jacket off at work and ran around in a camisole the other day....the guys were not impressed; in fact most were revulsed.
Her personality might have had something to do with that, though. Us women were scandalized and tried to find a handy Glamour Don't bar

HurryKane, I was going to suggest the same thing.
MissMary have her wear a blazer over it or one of those short sweaters that all the girls are wearing now. At least they wear a bra with them or layer the cami's not like the halter tops we wore in the 70's which many left nothing to the imagination.

My oldest wears cami's, usually under jackets.
My youngest wouldn't be caught dead in one. Much less alive!
My whole point was I ~still~ think these tops belong in the bedroom! They're basically underclothing, not outer clothing....

Sorry, but as a teenager I laughed at the idea of wearing something my mom would sew for me. She sewed alot of my clothes as a kid and baby but as I became a teenager I wouldn't be caught dead wearing homemade anything. I guess I was a brat. lol.

I agree the tops are a wee bit skimpy, but like the ones at the link you posted Mary. I think are cute. I wish I could still pull off wearing something like that. I know I really don't think I would want my daughters in them, but I still think they are very cute. My girls are very fashion savy now, I know I am going to have a hard time when they are teenagers. They want their bellies to show now at 7.
They see it all over the t.v. and I know this is why they like it. 
As far as those girls who got ribbon laced through their piercings.........ewwww, I would kill my daughters. It is not very pretty at all!

Yeah, Laura would definitely balk at anything I'd sew.....unless it would be curtains for her room. Or a cover for her director's chair, in a very bright, current print. That would about it!
But I do appreciate the suggestions DDD, I'm from the generation when it was cool to sew your own clothes. Again, I'm old-old, LOL!!!
What Laura's opting for is the 3 quarter length sleeved tops/blouses, that you leave untucked. In stripes, to go with a black blazer she picked up from Old Navy, wearing them with khaki's. She's my tomboy, good thing she didn't need to wear a skirt!!!! She's the time keeper for her Mock Trial team.
I guess I was hoping for someone else to be as dismayed to see these cami's still in fashion. I'll have to look at them all spring and summer....ugh! Not my youngest though.....she'd never even try one on!!!

Try Blair.com for the style she is looking for. They have a blouse called weskit style that has short sleeves that would look very well under a black blazer.
