Seven dead in CA postal shooting

#1 Postby alicia-w » Tue Jan 31, 2006 7:41 am

A female former employee opened fire at a 24-hour postal service sorting facility in Goleta, California, killing six people and critically wounding another, before turning the gun on herself, authorities said early Tuesday.

"That's what we believe," Santa Barbara County Sheriff Jim Anderson said.

The shootings took place around 9:15 p.m. Monday (12:15 a.m. ET Tuesday).

SWAT teams found seven people dead inside the building where about 40 to 50 people had been working, Anderson said. The shootings took place "at different areas around the building," he added.

"One of the deceased appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound," he said. "We have concluded the search inside, and we do not believe there is any further threat to the community."

Now they have also found a neighbor dead.

Reminded me of the Laurie Dann case. She shot seven kids in a school and then took a teenager and his mom hostage in their home. Shot the teen, but he survived. Then she took her own life. Only one of the kids she shot died, so it wasn't the "deadliest" shooting, but it was pretty severe. But one was bad enough.

What??

I said Dann's case wasn't the deadliest, but it was still very severe. Was merely pointing out that this case brought that earlier one to my mind.

Besides, wasn't Laurie Dann a substitute teacher at the school where she shot the kids? Thus, that would be a workplace shooting also.

Jeez, picky much?

She killed herself, so that's a given. Don't most religions teach that suicide is the unforgivable sin because you can't ask for forgiveness after committing the act?
