Yes...the local parking garages that are part of DC's metrorail system went to a non-cash system over a year ago. The parking lot attendents were skimming cash from all the commuters...Several individuals were involved and netted about a million over several years from various parking garages.

I pay in cash for most everything. Rarely use credit, only to secure a hotel room or buy a plane ticket. Never had a cash offer refused......MGC

We have one credit card and prefer it that way. I can't even count the stores that have offered me their credit card, while standing there either paying with my one CC or cash. Especially cash! Spend that money on something else I've had clerks say....and I look down at my purchases and ask - items like this, you mean? That gets them every time!

No, I'd rather own one CC. Meanwhile a SIL about to leave the family will likely have to file bankrupcy after her divorce (she owns 24 CC's and is deeply in debt, it's shocking).

I've heard that it is illegal to refuse cash as payment, but I don't know if it's actually true or not.

I can say that I know it's not illegal to refuse cash for online or mail order payments. The USPS actually forbids sending cash through the mail, though of course we all know that everyone does it in greeting cards all the time.

I don't like the idea of people refusing cash as payment. Does anyone read the money anymore? Our money does clearly say "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private" so I don't see any valid reason to not accept Federal Reserve Notes for a bill.
