Egyptian Ferry with 1300 ppl on board disappeared in Red Sea

#1 Postby southerngale » Fri Feb 03, 2006 6:00 am

Egypt maritime officials say a ferry with 1,300 people on board has disappeared in the Red Sea. A lifeboat has been spotted carrying 3 people near where the ship was last seen, as well as bodies floating in the water. :(

Apparently, it disappeared from the radar screen shortly after sailing from the port of Dubah. Its last position on the radar screen was 62 miles from Dubah.

It's a large ferry and they haven't found it yet.

Those ships are sold on the cheap and are not regulated or inspected...suprised this doesn't happen more often. This ship was a European throw-away...

Sad anyway. :(

Kinda reminds me of the Estonia disaster on the Baltic Sea in 1994.
