Got a New Job!!! woohooooo!!!!!

#1 Postby LSU2001 » Sat Feb 11, 2006 1:29 pm

I just got word this morning that I am the New Director of Community Education at Baton Rouge Community College. I have been looking to move out of the K-12 classroom for awhile and it looks like this is my break. Not only will I use my Masters degree in Educational Administration I will be a Higher Ed. Administrator. My job will be developing programs designed to enhance community educational opportunities. I will be responsible for program development, working with industry, senior groups, k-12 educators, and other community groups. I am soooooo ready to get out of K-12 public education and move into an area that I really believe can make a major difference in the quality of the community.

Oh well sorry to bore ya'll but I had to spread the great news.

That sounds great Tim. A change of pace and a new challenge. You'll be working with adults! I know full well the toll being a teacher can take, I have several sisters-in-law and friends, all teachers. Years ago one got so burned out teaching First Grade for about 15 years, she quit, went back to school to get her Master's. Everyone assumed she'd choose Edu, but she went into Business! After graduation she began working in the business world. And you guessed it, she found herself missing teaching young children. She went back to First Grade and has never looked back since. Another teacher my children had in 5th Grade, was a beloved teacher in our district. Won Teacher of the Year, out of oh, 500 teachers, etc. Very hands on Science teacher (but taught core curriculum subjects too), had innovative ideas, started worm bins at their school to cut down on cafeteria waste. He got burned out too and took a year long Sabatical. Everyone held their breath, he won't come back we all feared. Everyone wanted him as their homeroom teacher in 5th Grade. Students had 1 out of 4 chances to get him, but he taught Science to every 5th Grader. Long story short, he came back to the same Elementary and everyone was so grateful. His teaching skills renewed, refreshed and he was focused again.

So I wish you the very best. In a different lifetime, I could have been teaching material. I'm just too old now and worn out! LOL

Good luck with the new job!

Mary
