would .5" to 1" be a record all-time snowfall for Tampa? I know that you guys had .2" back in 1977, but I don't think I have ever heard of a 1" snowfall there. All I can say is that you guys better not get snow :grr: (lol)...I just moved to Houston from central Florida and have been hoping to see snow here. But now I am here and it will possibly snow there?! Just my luck.. lol. It would be cool if you guys got some though. Could you imagine! Global warming and such a warm January and then it snows in Florida? It would make national headlines (similar to the christmas eve snow in TX)!

I would not be surprised to see a few wet flakes with dare I say
"gulf effect snow". More than likely the very lowest levels will be just warm enough around Tampa. But coastal Pasco or Hernando county...maybe. I gave it a very brief mention on air today. I would be surprised if the snow totals the GFS is showing verified. This type of event would only yeild a few hundreths at most of QPF.

One potential would be enough lift from that secondary short wave for Sunday night/monday morning time frame. The 12z GFS shows it now making 4 straight runs of cold enough thickness, 850 heights, and lift but for me, I am not convinced just yet.

Snowed up to 10" in South Texas last year and we got nothing, along with Atlanta.

We haven't had a real good snow in so long, I've almost forgotten what it looks like.

If Tampa gets snow of any kind...and we get nothing (again), I am going to officially give up.

brent snow in South Texas is a lot more common then snow in central florida!!!!!!!!! lol... snow in south texas is not near as unusaul as it is in tampa.. i mean cmon snow in tampa is a 1 in 50 yr. event if that ya know.. san antonio and austin can see snow and birmingham and atlanta can miss out.. theres absolutely nothing unusual about that since Snow dips further south into Texas then it does in the southeast usually.... the only place in Texas where snow is very scarce is the rio grande valley like brownsville, laredo, etc. still arctic cold and snow in the rio grade is more common then cold and snow in central or south florida...

well for christmas 2004, Brownsville saw 2" of snow. This was their second snowfall in history. So if it can happen there, then it can happen in Tampa. However, looking at the latest, I do not believe Tampa will be getting any snow on Monday.

WEST CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY RUSKIN FL
818 PM EST SAT FEB 11 2006

.UPDATE...DEVELOPING WINTER STORM JUST BEGINNING ITS RAPID
INTENSIFICATION PHASE AS WELL DEFINED SHORT WAVE IN THE MID
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY HEADS EAST. AT 8 PM...THE CENTER OF THE GALE
WAS LOCATED ALONG THE NORTH CAROLINA OUTER BANKS...BECOMING THE
CLASSIC "HATTERAS LOW" WHICH WILL BE A STORM OFF THE NEW JERSEY
COAST IN 12 HOURS.

AS FOR THE FLORIDA PENINSULA...THE SUBTROPICAL JET FEEDING THE
STORM IS ALSO FEEDING OCCASIONAL RAIN ALONG AND SOMEWHAT BEHIND
THE FRONT. TEMPERATURES HAVE BEGUN TO REFLECT FRONTAL PASSAGE FROM
TAMPA NORTH WITH READINGS DROPPING THROUGH THE 50S. FARTHER
SOUTH...READINGS ARE STILL IN THE 50S.

FOR THE OVERNIGHT...THE FORECAST AREA REMAINS IN A FAVORABLE RIGHT
REAR QUADRANT OF THE 250 MB JET...WHOSE MAXIMUM INTENSIFIES TO
OVER 180 KNOTS IN EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA BY 12Z...BUT STILL LEAVES
A WEAK AREA OF DIVERGENCE OVER SOUTHWEST FLORIDA. GFS SHOWS A SLOW
DECREASE IN DEEP LAYER MOISTURE OVERNIGHT AS THE JET PULLS AWAY.
THE UPDATED ZONES REFLECT THIS TIMING...AND HAVE WORDED THE GRIDS
AND ZONES AS "OCCASIONAL RAIN ENDING (BY TIME)" WITH THE LAST
MEASURABLE AMOUNTS HANGING ON UNTIL DAYBREAK ACROSS SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

REMAINDER OF FORECAST LEFT ALONE.

BLUSTERY CONDITIONS WILL BE THE RULE THROUGH MONDAY. ASIDE FROM
ONGOING MARINE AND SURF ISSUES...THE MAIN HAZARDS WILL BE WIND
CHILL LATE SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING FOR THE CENTRAL AND
SOUTH ZONES...ALONG WITH A LIKELY FREEZE ACROSS THE INTERIOR
NATURE COAST AREAS AND A MARGINAL FREEZE AWAY FROM THE COAST OVER
THE CENTRAL ZONES MONDAY MORNING. GFS AND NAM ARE STILL
ADVERTISING A BRIEF PERIOD OF LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE NEAR THE COAST
MONDAY MORNING...WHICH COULD RESULT IN A PERIOD OF "COLD" STRATUS
WITH VIRGA AND PERHAPS SOME LIGHT PRECIPITATION (FLURRIES AND
SPRINKLES). MORE ON THIS IN LATER DISCUSSIONS.

THE BIGGER FREEZE LOOKS TO BE MONDAY NIGHT/EARLY TUESDAY WHEN SKIES
COMPLETELY CLEAR AND WINDS CALM...WITH IDEAL RADIATIONAL COOLING IN
A CHILLY AIR MASS. TUESDAY WILL BE THE COLDEST MORNING OF THIS
WINTER SO FAR.

Cool! Maybe someone can build a really, really, really tiny snowman with the 5 wet flurries that may fall.

Never mind Tampa! We're having a job getting it to snow in Columbus at the moment, even though every other city in Ohio seems to be able to manage it!

Well, somewhere unusual might as well have some snow...would highlight just how weird a season its turning out to be.

I just want a few flakes. I don't even need enough to make a teeny tiny snowman.
