Wow, interesting eye feature. Weird to see, and even more so because my husband's friend from Massachusettes berated us for living in hurricane-prone areas...

Edited to include: I was trapped in that March '93 storm and it was horrible. I can only imagine how folks are trying to deal with the snow and cold up there right now.

Could noreasters be related to hurricanes in a way, they feed off of water in the gulf stream....

In some ways yes. There are theories that the abnormally warm January helped keep SST's above normal closer to the coast. This meant (A) More energy for the storm, and (B) since noreasters typically move near the sharp drop-off between the warm Gulf Stream and colder waters in situations like this one, the track was closer to the coast.

The Blizzard of 2006's eye is the best looking out of all of them.

It is amazing how similar they do look to hurricanes! :eek:

We got hammered from the 2003 storm. We weren't expecting much snow at all and it snowed hard all day. Ended up with 23". I wish we would get some snow sometime this winter. We havent had much at all.
