Not true at all. If all the circumstances were the same except that it was, say, Vice President Edwards, I'd have exactly the same opinion.

Bingo! I 100% agree. This is what we Storm2K Liberals, Democrats have been trying to say. This isn't an attack on Republicans. If the shoe were on the other foot and VP Edwards had shot a friend, we would not be upset at the fall-out a tragedy like this, would result in.

I was pretty confident that we'd hear sentiments to that degree from him.

Good for him. Now maybe all the pundits out there blaming Whittington for this will reconsider.

Personally, I don't need to know any more than that to know this was a negligent action.

Yeah...you do. You need to know the facts.
so....according to some report (which mind you came prior to Cheney's interview with Brit) Cheney turned and fired in the direction he had come from, behind him it esscense. Just where did you hear this???

Cheney's interview with Brit, clearly defined what happened, and correct me if I'm wrong, but he said he turned to his right and fired, and at that moment saw his friend go down. The friend was in a gulley with the sun behind him.

I got to tell you...if I'm hunting, and I'm out of sight of my group, I'm going to think twice before I put myself in a dangerous logistic position.

Bottom line however -- An accident! Cheney did the honorable thing by accepting full responsibility for what happened, which is arguably the victims carelessness.

The one thing that bothers me about this more than anything else is the nearly 24 hour delay before speaking to the local LEO's. If this had happened to any of the rest of us, we'd have been talking to the police right away, without much choice. In fact, if I were VP Cheney, I'd have been absolutely sure to speak with them right away just to prevent any suspicion. There is a reason that he didn't want them to see him right away.

He was drunk. Heck, they were probably all drunk.

Everything the man does is for a calculated reason. He's extremely intelligent. He even "admitted" to having "a beer" at lunch during Brit's interview, just in case any evidence of alcohol consumption comes up in a later investigation.

Not baseless or factless. He admitted "a beer". There's a reason he did that. He also waited nearly 24 hours before speaking to authorities. There's a reason he did that, too. The man isn't stupid.

he admitted having a beer because it was a fact, plain and simple.

You claming he was drunk is exactly as skinny says, "Base less, fact less, inuendeos!!! "

I'm confused. How could anyone have waited over 24 hours before talking to authorities? In KY, if a person gets admitted to the ER with a gunshot wound, the police are notified.

i'm not sure it was 24 hours before he talked to authorities, though i do recall reading that it was the next day. the accident occurred at about 5:50pm and the VP was questioned Sunday morning.

"The Kenedy County Sheriff's Department, which interviewed Cheney about the accident Sunday morning, concluded there was "no alcohol or misconduct involved in the incident." A state game warden gave Cheney a warning for hunting without a required stamp on his license, for which the vice president's office later submitted payment."
