I love how people from the south make a big deal over cold rain. Here we make a big deal over warm rain. I (barely) remember when I lived in North Carolina, it would be warm rain all the time. We're lucky to ever get warm rain here. I don't miss the occassional ice we would get though. Ice is a nightmare.

I'm from Plano too, cheezywxman . . . I went up to Farmersville a little while ago and there is definitely ice in the outlaying areas - streets are remaining clear and our sidewalks and other surfaces are dry. I WISH we would get something . . . @ 1:30 I was driving up 75 and it was like dusk - all cars driving with lights on, etc. Lake Ray Hubbard was still warm that as the moisture hit it, the steam was rising - looked like a scene from Legend of Boggy Creek. . .

LP, they're saying we have a chance at sleet in my area tonight. Don't know if that will pan out or not. Even if it does, we're not expecting any accumulation.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA
555 AM EST SUN FEB 19 2006
.SHORT TERM...(TODAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT)
STRONG HIGH PRESSURE DRIFTS TO THE ERN U.S. TODAY AND SETTLES OVER THE SE STATES AND WEAKENS THROUGH MONDAY. RADAR THIS MORNING SHOWING JUST PATCHY LIGHT PRECIP ACROSS MOSTLY CENTRAL GA THAT SHOULD BE RAIN AND POSSIBLY SLEET. DAY ON THE WHOLE WILL BE DRY. ANOTHER SURGE OF MOISTURE MOVES ACROSS THE NORTHERN COUNTIES TONIGHT WITH MUCH DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE MODELS TONIGHT AND MONDAY. MOISTURE AXIS LOOKS TO BECOME BETTER DEVELOPED ACROSS THE AREA MONDAY NIGHT WITH RAIN CHANCES INCREASING. ANY PRECIP ACROSS THE NORTH LATER TONIGHT COULD BE MIXED WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN AND WILL NEED TO BE WATCHED. AIRMASS SHOULD BE WARM ENOUGH MONDAY NIGHT FOR ALL RAIN. FORECAST HIGHS TODAY ARE EITHER A BLEND OR FAVORING THE MET WITH FORECAST HIGHS FOR MONDAY A BLEND.
I am a little surprised that at 10:00 am, it's only 27F at my house. Darned shame all that moisture we got this time yesterday isn't here now. We'd finally have some interesting winter weather.

If I had to guess, I'd say the Atlanta area doesn't get in on much (if anything at all) tonight. Bad timing and not much to get excited about. Hope I'm wrong.

Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 4:09 PM EST on February 19, 2006
... A light mix of wintry precipitation is possible late tonight
into Monday...
A weak upper level disturbance will be racing east across the
area late tonight and Monday morning. This may bring a period of
light snow to the area late tonight through mid morning Monday...
before ending as light rain around noon.
Moisture associated with this system will be minimal... and only
very light amounts of precipitation are forecast. With cold air in
place over the region... any precipitation late tonight through
mid morning Monday will fall as light snow. Snowfall accumulations
of a trace to less than 1 inch are expected through mid morning.
Dueto warmer air expected to begin spreading over the region
Monday morning... any light snow should become mixed with light
freezing rain... then rain early Monday morning. The light
precipitation is expected to end as light rain by around noon
Monday.
Due to the cold surface and ground temperatures... any light snow
that falls late tonight through mid morning Monday may create a
light coating on area streets and roads.
Those that plan on traveling late tonight through mid morning
Monday may encounter slick spots... especially on bridges and
overpasses. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for
the latest information.
