plainsman wrote:the weather channel just updated their front page article saying light frozen precip will occur from the red river valley including Dallas Fort Worth to the tennesee valley until sunday night.... if the temps were going to be in the low 30s this event would be nothing!!!! but the temps are going to be in the low 20s with mostly freezing drizzle/rain and sleet... i really trust TWC short term and they put a big blob of ice right over Dallas tomorrow (sunday) theres alot more moisture out by el paso and New Mexico heading our way... look at all the moisture in West Texas now... this is only the begining and still sites and dallas are reporting freezing mist and terrel (east Dallas) is reporting moderate freezing rain and 26 degrees.. the frozen precip has been spotty but some spots have been picking up constant freezing precipitation since 9 am.. this is just the beginning and i expect tonight and tomorrow morning to get worse...

Look, I really DO hope you get your dearest wish overnight, but things just don't look too good for you at this point.

If you don't believe me, then read this post. It's from a Pro-Met (Jeff) in Texas.

aggiecutter wrote:Jeff, do you think that weak upper disturbance over west texas-northern mexico could enhance the precip over the northern part of the state. I'm sitting at 29 with very light freezing rain. Anything that falls now could make driving very dangerous. I ask because the 18z GFS suggest that it might.

jeff wrote:I doubt there will be much increase in the light rain or drizzle across N TX tonight. Any increases will be closer to the Red River and over OK and there it will not be much. Given no ehcoes showing in the 88Ds over W TX and the surface obs out west still only showing light freezing drizzle I would not expect much QPF (maybe .01 to .05)

the precip does not to be heavy for some good icing.. temps are in the low to mid 20s here.... just alot of freezing drizzle and freezing mist can cause problems theres already been over 200 winter weather related accidents  and it just started thats a lot of accidents  ..... there doesnt have to be in increase in moisture jeff to cause problems with temps in the low to mid 20s just constant plain freezing drizzle and mist can cause problems... fort worth nas is still reporting 25 and freezing mist still and this should last till monday morning.. when this is all said and done theres going to be some good icing out of this... well see what happens... :D

Hmmmm 200+ accidents already. I'm not at all surprised. I've seen it happen time and time again in the Metroplex, all you need is a thin glaze and the roads go haywire. I've had it happen to me once in Lubbock. Having an accident in the ice is one of the WORST things you can go through - it's cold, wet, and it takes forever for any help to arrive. I hope all these people wanting an ice storm take a second to think about that. There are already at least 400 very miserable people out there. My sympathies go out to them.

That thin layer of ice, black ice, is the most dangerous. You don't see it until it's too late. That's probably what I'll have around here in the morning as there is a fine mist falling outside right now and will continue through the night.

looks like the radar is beginning to show an area of snow and ice re-developing in north Texas...though most is not reaching the ground; a few places may experience a few moderate bursts of freezing rain, sleet or snow within the next few hours.

ya this morning a bout of freezing drizzle came thru and lasted about 5-6 hours in fort worth and about 3 hrs. in Dallas with the temps in the 20s overall so far the cities in Dallas/fort worth have seen probably 10-15 hrs worth of light freezing rain, sleet and drizzle with temps in the mid 20s  ... once again this bout like yesterdays mainly impacted the cities, boy you guys in th northern suberbs have gotten gyped .. watching cars slide around like their on ice skating rinks in Dallas/fort worth this morning was incredible, parts of arlington had to be shut down. and theirs been over 200 accidents in the DFW metroplex... my mom stays in the city of Dallas and she cant even get into her car this morning because of the freezing drizzle this morning, theirs a layer of ice all around her car and on her windshields! they had to extend the weather watch because of the continuous freezing drizzle and parts of dallas are still reporting freezing drizzle.. i dont expect temps to get above freezing today.. with yet more freezing chances this afternoon and tonight... there should be a lot of closings tomorrow morning to to the icy weather in Dallas/Fort Worth

freezing drizzle/ freezing mist has picked up again in Dallas/fort worth .... every site in DFW metroplex, in the cities at least :D according to the fort worth NWS is reporting either freezing drizzle or mist with temps in the 20s as of 145 pm... things will get worse this afternoon and even worse tonight... the nws has increased our chance of freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning should be a nightmare for drivers because of the icy roads.

man its still freezing mist here in fort worth as of 815 am monday morning.. plants, mailboxes my carwindshild and door handle are completly frozen over with a glaze of ice ... theres been freezing drizzle /mist all night here.. temps are warming slightly to 31... in the cities of dallas and fort worth freezing rain freezing drizzle freezing mist fell for a good 20-30 hours total from this storm... they shouldnt have change the weather watch in the first place.. the NWS said serious accidents have been widespread around dallas and fort worth.. there was 1 ice related death when a man was ejected from his seat after hitting a patch of ice in parker county coming into fort worth... some of the news articles are crazy that TEXAS STOOGE has posted, talking about ambulances getting in serious ice-related accidents because there trying to help out somebody from the public who just got into an accident caused by the icy weather  Its been very serious here in the cities of Dallas and Fort worth... roads in arlington had to be closed completly due to the icy weather... an ice storm warning should have been posted in the cities of Dallas and Fort worth.. it might have prevented the death of that church pastor on the outskirts of fort worth.. thats very sad....

The conditions that persisted were exactly what the stated purpose of a winter weather advisory is for. It did not meet the criteria for either a winter storm warning or ice storm warning.

This is true ... the warnings, I believe, are based on precipitation amounts and while I'm sure the freezing drizzle created very dangerous conditions ... it didn't amount to more than 0.25 inches of precip ... the mark for when winter weather advisories or freezing rain advisories become winter storm warnings or even ice storm warnings. NWS did what it is supposed to do.

wheather, it was an ice storm warning, winter weather advisory, or winter storm watch, it was very serious... whatever watch youre under doesnt base the magnitude of the storm.. the watches are put out by humans and humans make mistakes... the total number of accidents in DFW have been reported by nbc news to be 1,100 ice related wrecks... as well as 4 DFW area deaths... because of the icy slick roads, theres a very sad story of an iraqi soldier returning from iraq to visit fort worth and died in an automobile accident due to the icy roads in Fort worth.. just go to nbc5i.com and they have a whole recap on this ice storm... ............... p.s. ive been under many winter storm watches and have got absolutlely nothing but maybe a flurrie ya know.. theres been times in DFW where they put winter storm watches out and its stayed just cloudy the whole time with no precip... there horrible at issueing the right watches in dallas/fort worth...
