well you havnt experienced a bad a ice/snowstorm in north texas brent.. i gurantee thanksgiving 1993 in north texas was worse then any north georgia winter storm storm... i know the neighborhood roads werent frozen over in atlanta like they were in 1993 in Dallas in North Texas.. and Dallas sees more snow then atlanta every winter .. Dallas averages 3 inches while atlanta averages only 2 inches... some of the icestorms in Dallas also had snow on the ice...... :D

I've done some quick looking around and about the most "severe" you can have for an Ice Storm is 3-4". There are various accounts of these occuring in N. TX/OK, the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, the NE and New England, and the Midwest. The worst being a 5" Ice Storm in Wisconsin in 1976 and the widespread 4" Great Lakes/Canadian Ice Storm of 1998.

Yes, the DFW metroplex is in the "Ice Belt" and has had some notorious Ice Storms. But it is NOT accurate to say they are "more severe" than those in N. GA or the other listed regions. Like I was saying earlier, 1" of ice is 1" of ice; no matter where you are. And actually, one could argue that a 1" ice storm in DFW is less severe than a 1" ice storm in GA because for one, there are FAR LESS trees in the DFW area and second, almost all of the utility lines are underground, third, it's a lot flatter, fourth, almost all the roads in DFW are concrete as oposed to blacktop, which is widely used in GA and is harder to drive on when you have ice.

Just an FYI, here is a detailed analysis of the DFW ice threat; it's not much different than locations at a similiar latitude in the SE US:

The entire Southeast (GA, Carolinas, AL, TN, MS) has had many ice storms that were just as bad if not worse than any TX ice storm. I'm not sure of any "good" ice storms anyway. Don't try to say what GA has or doesn't have if you've never lived there. If you don't believe what these people are saying, go look it up on Google, I guarantee you'll find it.

And North TX did NOT see an ice storm this weekend. The event was minor in comparison to true ice storms you all have been bringing up in your respective areas.

And finally...let's try to let this thread die the death its deserved...

ya #1 i never said the ice storm dallas and fort worth had in the last couple of days was a severe very bad ice storm..... i said it was a good decent storm and #2 I never said Dallas gets worse ice storms then atlanta.. they get the same amount of ice storms there equal when it comes to the amount of ice storms and ice storm damages.. Dallas does get a little more snow then Atlanta does... and ya I20 from Abilene Tx to Dallas Tx to shreveport la, to tupelo ms. to birminham al, to Atlanta Ga is the ice storm belt of the U.S.A. all cities along I-20 can get slamed with Ice Storms..... and just like it said in the ice storms articles ice storms are deceptive killers..... because it does not look "white" outside like a snowy winter wonderland.. when youre in an ice storm it does not look like a winter wonderland so people who stay in and dont leave the house during an ice storm can easily think "nothing happened" so i could see how the people who stayed in during the ice storm in the north dallas suberbs (which didnt see as much ice as the cities of dallas and fort worth a couple of days ago) didnt think it was that bad because they knew that there was ice on the roads and the roads were too hazordous ago.. ya, id like to see them say that if they would have driven on the bridges and the elevated road in dallas fort worth or even some of the regular roads... if they were one of the 2,000 people who got in an ice related accident, id like to see them say that it wasnt that bad then, but they were smart and stayed inside the house during the whole storm.... ice storms are decieving because no matter how bad the ice storm is... it still doesnt look like a "snowy white winter wonderland outside if you just stay inside during the whole ice storm.... i styed in fort worth and every part of my car had a layer of ice on it as well as the plants and shrubs in my yard and Dallas got ice worse according to the NWS and the newspaper articles... there was a little more moisture in the city of Dallas.... :D

CM, this thread has been done for a day or 2 now. Locking it isn't a bad idea at this point. Personally, I'm done with it.

Yep, I'd say lock it up. This is probably some of the crapiest reading I have read on Storm2k. Wow....just wow.

I hope I didn't contribute to the 'crappiness'; I was just trying to add some facts to the discussion :(
