Some may like it hot, but this blonde prefers refrigeration.
Marilyn Monroe will be the ever-so-shapely shape of the butter sculpture at the 2006 State Fair of Texas, officials announced Wednesday.
The butter bombshell will be accompanied by an exhibit on the legendary icon and sex symbol at The Women’s Museum, promising that the family-friendly fair will be a little friendlier than usual this year.
“It should be an interesting fair, to say the least,” said Sharon BuMann, the fair’s butter sculptor.
The fair is still seven months away — it runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 22 — but its delectable details are beginning to congeal.
Museum officials are hoping to book Norma Jean memorabilia and costumes, look-alikes and discussion groups for the exhibit, “Marilyn Monroe: Exploited, Explored and Explained.”
They’ve already procured a plethora of photographs and prints — including Andy Warhol works and R-rated images from the centerfold’s famous last sitting, which officials said they’ll arrange out of view of more innocent eyes.
“We want people to see the exhibit and interpret it for themselves,” said Tara Kirk, the museum’s registrar and exhibits manager. “It will generate a lot of traffic.”
The fair’s 2006 theme, “Big Tex and the City,” is intended to celebrate the historic ties between Dallas and the fair. Other draws include a Vegas-inspired light show and a curious fellow who will build replicas of Dallas landmarks from playing cards.
But will the buxom butter sculpture steal the show?
Ms. BuMann predicts fairgoers will love it — bawdy and soul.
“I’m thinking something with her skirt blown up and those long, long legs,” Ms. BuMann said. “We’ll give it a good try.”
