Not that I've heard of, f5. This thing is still developing as more data comes in.

I'm sorry but I believe downtown N.O. had Cat.3 winds. Did you happen to see the pictures of the Superdome's roof and other areas after Katrina?
Winds above the ground are higher than winds at ground level, so yes, the roof of the Superdome could've experienced strong Cat 2 conditions, which would correlate to Cat 1 winds at the sfc.

Plus the dome's roof is "aerodynamic" enhancing wind speeds. I guess the Saints can finally say they got a "wind".

Didn't notice any comments in this thread about the dome at all; but with all the rapid posting I possibly missed it. Regardless, that downtown N.O. didn't receive sustained 3 has been pretty much established/accepted so far as I know.

Ok, that's cheezy.
Plus, the roof is actually quite flimsy in its construction - has to be in order to maintain its lightweight characteristics:
The roof of the Superdome is steel with a layer of polyurethane and a thin layer of a Dupont waterproofing material called Hypalon.

This what was said about the Superdome roof:
[b]The Superdome was built to withstand most catastrophes; the roof was ostensibly estimated to be able to withstand winds with speeds of up to 200 mph[/bold]
NO..I am not saying New Orleans had 200 mph winds, again, not saying N.O. had 200 mph winds. I am just posting what was said about the dome's roof. Let me clarify this again, NO, I am not say 200 mph winds.

where did you get that quote from? Also..may be they were talking about the roof structure itself (which did survive) and not the outer layers (which failed).

Considering MSY had sustainted 64KT winds during Katrina, and considering the 107KT Michoud report and the 104KT report at Air Products a few minutes earlier, I conclude that downtown New Orleans likely received sustained Cat-2 winds from Katrina. All three of the above observations were taken around the same time.....MGC

You really need to drop the straw man references. Personally, I find it offensive and rude. I was just making a comment yet you still feel inclined to respond in this manner. It is your right but offensive remarks are not.
thank you...
Definition of a Straw-man argument (Merriam-Webster) : "a weak or imaginary opposition."
Nothing in there intended to "offend" it's simply what one calls a statement wherein one contends that someone is saying other than that which one is ACTUALLY saying. Personally, I find THAT offensive. I respect your viewpoints and have never tried to put words into your mouth (which is EXACTLY what straw-man tactics are). I have never "immortalized" or put this storm on a "pedestal" and find your efforts at characterizing my and other comments as tantamount to doing that equally offensive. Reciprocity here would equally be appreciated.
Thank You

Still find that to be a personal attack which I might add is not allowed here. Offend maybe the wrong word in this case. Condecending is more suitable. So to close, believe what you want to believe even if its an opinion back by nothing.

we had brick walls fall in Galveston with Rita. Didn't even see cat 1 winds...
EWG- I agree with all your points. Kat offically was a 3 at landfall. Wind damage seen in NO was not even close to sustained cat 3 winds.
Have you been there personally? I have and I disagree with you.
so you think there was cat 3 SUSTAINED winds in NO?? If that was the case it would have looked a lot worse than what it does today.

If some would stop their condescending remarks too, then others would not have to resort to them. Everyone has an opinion and it seems ours is always talked down to like we are stupid.

Will you please drop it so we can return to the topic?
