I also posted this at Hurricane Prep, but this is something that is important to take a look at. There was a conference on Contraflow and here is the website that they set up.

Every time I see that word, I strangely think of Ollie North and some third world country in Central America...

Yes, I listened. Very interesting - and a nightmare (even with "the plan") for those who have to put it place and manage its flow... No doubt, a huge undertaking when it actually kickes off.

During the Rita evac, they didn't open it up soon enough thus the traffic hell we saw. I think we learned our lesson and will be prepared next time. The whole Rita episode was a blessing in disguise for Houston.....

i always just wait untill all the traffic clears before evacuating...
and then just coast out of town...

Couldn't agree more Rock!!!! I pray we never have to use the plan, but I bet it runs a lot more smoothly next time it is implemented!!!
