Graduation was today
I went at 9 for the rehearsal and just got home a few minutes ago. It's been a long day.
I'm not feeling very happy. I'm really going to miss my highschool years. They were the best so far and I've made a lot of good friends. And now I'm in a transition, with nothing for which I can say "this is my life right now". I feel uprooted.
When I went from middle school to high school I had terrible anxiety and depression. I even missed the end of year awards ceremony and the next day of school. I did manage to go to the last day, but it was tough. Then I spent the next several months recovering.
And now, I am feeling similarly, though not as bad, despite the fact that the transition is more significant and I actually enjoyed my high school years and was much more engaged than in middle school.
I just thought I would share this, if it's not a problem.

Turning to another chapter can always be unsettling. Moving from a comfort zone to an unknown is not easy either.
Widre...what you are feeling is normal...but that which you fear, what lies ahead, is such a wonderful opportunity.
You obviously worked hard and enjoyed your high school years. Many of us here aren't so sure we could say that about ours. We have a lot of mixed memories.
So take a little time now to appreciate the accomplishment and think about the paths you can choose from here on out.
Life is always evolving...changing...with doors opening and closing all around you.
I have no doubt...by the very comments in your message, that you will be just fine as you grow even more in the days and months ahead.
Congratulations! It really is something to celebrate!

WM, there is a sadness with graduating....we grow so used to
those folks around us that we shared all those years with. But,
there are friends out there, yet to be found, whom you will grow
to love and cherish, just as now. The world becomes different,
but, it becomes as good as you can make it! You're going to
find much excitement with the changes!

Widre, that may be a normal thing for most. I'm not even going to be a senior in high school until the 14th of August, and I feel upset since I had senior friends that I won't see again. I am just trying to survive the pain and taking this 1 day at a time. Believe me it may help if you just let God handle it. If you need anything let one of us know, I'd be glad to talk to you.

It is such a huge step in life, graduating. It's like the door to your future is opening. It's completely normal to feel like "okay now what". What really interests you? Spend your time doing whatever that is this summer. If you're starting college this fall, you'll soon see that everyone kinda feels this way. In my opinion, college is a great tool to discovering what you want out of life. It helps you choose which door to open for your future. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. And cheer up! you just graduated. Congrats!

WidreMann, I didn't make the jump directly from high school to college; instead, I spent the next 8 years in two different service uniforms. However, it all turned out for the best; at 26, I was no "party-animal", already accustomed to hard work in the "real world", and walked away with every honor the three colleges I attended had to offer.
You might want to take a sabbatical before continuing...do something else, work, travel, whatever...it might prove a blessing, as it was with me.
Just a note for your consideration...and congratulations!

Thanks for your support, guys. I know I am going off to college, but I'm not there yet and therefore still feel unsettled. I am actually looking forward to the opportunities there and beyond. To me, there are a lot of interesting things in life and plenty to do and see.
And maybe I will finally finish my language over the summer. It's been more than three years that I've been working on it.

I've considered taking time off before college. But I think I will actually do better there. I am not a party animal at all, or interested in drugs or alcohol, so that probably won't be a problem. I am also pretty good at focusing on academic work. But I might decide after some time that I would rather go do something else. I'm not closing any doors unnecessarily.

Don't worry...Carolina should be a great place to meet all sorts of people. I think all college kids feel a little like they have no identity, but you'll find your place, and when college is over you will not feel the same as you do now...hopefully
Best of luck! And congrats! My brother is graduating Monday actually!

Congratulations Widreman! I actually enjoyed my summer afterwards since I had a boyfriend and we were going to the same local college in the Fall. Exciting times can also be anxious times as well. I have no doubt that you will go very far - you are a very intelligent person who I was shocked to learn not too long ago that you were still in high school! You are far more mature and brighter than your years let on.

I have this saying framed and by my bed;
"Be not afraid of what tomorrow holds; for you have seen yesterday and you will make it through today"
All of life is about change, and it can be very emotional and scary and exciting all at the same time! One day at a time is all we can handle and I am sure you will handle all of your "one days" gracefully!
