26 years ago today, who remembers the Blizzard of 1980 that stuck the mid-atlantic area with recored snows.

From Intellicast:
March 1, 1980 -

a snowstorm with near blizzard conditions struck eastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. By the time the storm ended on the 2nd, Elizabeth City, North Carolina was buried under 25 inches of snow. 13.7 inches fell at Norfolk, Virginia to boost its season snowfall to 41.9 inches -- its snowiest winter ever.

I was 16 and living in virginia beach and this was my biggest snowstorm I had ever been in. We were out of school for a week.

Well I was only 5 at the time but my I do remember this storm very well, my mother would not let us out to play because the snow was deeper than I was tall, I live in Pitt county and even though this map states 16 inches here I know most people say it was closer to 25"-30" and we had drifts over 5 ft and due to the bad drifting it is really hard to say how much but trust me it was more than 16". Also I remember every saying how Elizabeth City had 45" that storm, I have pictures somewhere if I find them I will post them. This is the largest snowfall in my lifetime and also my mother who is 60 and she has lived here her whole life, all I can say is I hope to see another one like it :D
