Beaumont's Average Gas Price Highest in State

#1 Postby southerngale » Fri Mar 03, 2006 3:19 pm

Lucky me! lol
Gas prices have been declining lately, but Beaumont's average is the highest in Texas, at $2.16/gallon

What's it like in your state?

Article I got this from:
Beaumont's Average Gasoline Price Highest in State
Reported by Scott Lawrence
March 3, 2006 - 8:29AM

AAA: Gas prices plateau after four weeks of declines

HOUSTON (AP) _ Four weeks of declining Texas gas prices ended this week as average prices remained virtually unchanged this week, according to the weekly AAA Texas gas price survey released Friday.

The survey reported price trends varied around the state, but the statewide average retail price of regular self-serve gasoline remained virtually unchanged at two dollars 15 cents per gallon.

The most expensive gas this week was in Beaumont, where retail prices averaged $2.16 per gallon, down 1 cent. The cheapest was in Corpus Christi, where the pump price averaged $2.06 per gallon, despite a 3-cent increase that was the biggest in the state.

Fuel prices fell up to 3 cents per gallon in Galveston-Texas City, where they averaged $2.14 per gallon.

The national average retail price was $2.26, up 1 cent.

Auto club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said gas prices began inching back up in much of the state late this week.

"Traditionally, gas prices decline during winter and bounce back in the spring. Usually, the increase comes after spring starts, so this increase could just be a slight one for the moment," he said.

We were running $2.05 for about two days . . . but then they decided to go back to $2.15. A couple of smaller stations are trying to be sneaky and undercut the big chains at $2.11, but that's the best we have.

I'm surprised that's the highest in Texas- we're at $2.16 in Oklahoma City!

Wouldn't 'ya think that Beaumont would have some of the lowest prices, considering its proximity to the Gulf oil fields, huge refineries, and the kicker that a large percentage of its population - I believe - is in one way or another connected with offshore drilling? Things that make 'ya go hmmmmmmm...

Same here too ixolib. Chevron/Texaco is right down the street from me (basically) and I still pay higher prices at the pump.
