What was your highest gas and electric bill this winter?
Ours was $328. We've kept our thermostat on 65 since Winter started (there's a laugh!). We closed off rooms (3) that we weren't using also.

Since Winter was mild, may I ask?

My highest so far this year was right around $200. I installed a programmable thermostat last fall, which led to me having to get a new furnace (my neighbor, who is a heating/cooling guy, helped my dad when he got stuck with the thermostat, and discovered that my furnace was ready to die at any time and beginning to leak carbon monoxide besides
); that probably helps keep the bills lower, not to mention the fact that when we are not home and at night the temp is set at 58°. (mean, aren't I??

We've had the programable thermostat. We just had to replace ours this past summer - I forget why, but I swear that the new one works better. I know we used to have it set at 72 degrees in the winter and would program it down to 65 at night, but now we have it set at 70 degrees during the day and it seems just as comfortable.

Our highest gas bill was about $298. We have a 2 zone system in our house. The upstairs runs on electricity, the downstairs on gas. We never turned on the upstairs at all, and the downstairs stayed between 60-63. Yes, it was cold. We used space heaters to keep us comfortable at night, otherwise, socks, sweatshirts and sweatpants were the order of the day.

If we ever build a house again, on acreage next time, my husband would like to put in geothermal heating. It's pricey to put in, but if you add it to your mortgage, then it's manageable. Apparently this is the way to go, if you can swing it. Your heating and cooling bills are supposed to be very low. Since you're heating from 55 degrees or never using A/C.
Right now we have gas. And keep the thermostat low. Like someone else said, we wear sox, slippers, sweatshirts.....for me, I wear thermals all winter long. If I dress in my many layers upon waking up, I'm warm all day long. I tuck it all in, sox into thermals, the only exposed skin are my hands, neck and face! You'd think we barely turn the heat on, but I am a freeze cat. This is how I get by on 65, all winter long. A sister in law of mine has hers on 62. 24/7. I don't know how she stands it. 65 is as low as I'd like to go.
Interesting answers everyone.

I'd say that we used about $250 worth of heating oil in december. That's with the window next to my wife's side of the bed being open frequently for "fresh air" and with the thermostat up to about 73 so my mother in law wouldn't get cold. I think that things like this have to do with the reason that men die younger than women.
