Thanks for the warm welcomes, you guys! This forum is kickin' to say the least, wow! I'll have to snoop around and see all the different topics.

Thanks for the tea too, nice to see you btw!

How's the weather in your world, everyone? It's beautiful here, 71 and sunny today.

I see you aren't too far from me, arkess7, 90 miles north! You think we'll get another cold spell? Nah, it's March now, lol! The strawberry festival is going on now here in Plant City. I'd like to get a flat of strawberries, maybe this week.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!!

Welcome to the PBS, Amy! Wow, we won't get fresh strawberries until around
mid-May, here. The Mennonites (similar to the Amish) will sell them at roadside
stands, and, I'll have to have some!

Eric, keep getting better, buddy!

It's mid-50's here for the weekend, but, no one's complaining -
the forecast shows upper-60s to 70's, right around the corner,
by next weekend! I hope the forecast holds true until then - I can
turn the heat back, and open some windows,
and, save $$$ on the gas bill!

Everyone have a good weekend!

We're driving up to my daughter's home in Vero Beach tomorrow right after the 9:30 church service. Kurt and (son-in-law) David will bond at a Dodgers spring training game all afternoon; Sarah and I will bond at the shopping mall. We'll also spend time with Tally, our adorable Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier grand-dogger, who's grown tremendously since Christmas -- no longer a fuzzy little ewok, but a beautiful 4 month old whose two professional groomings have changed her into a picture-perfect representative of the breed!

On a more serious note, I burned all the fingers on my left hand somewhat seriously by inexplicably grabbing an extremely hot sheet pan from the oven yesterday. I kept that hand in a bag of ice until about 3 a.m. because I couldn't bear to expose the flesh to the air. Then I spread the hand with antiseptic ointment and wrapped it in gauze. Today, I re-smeared it, re-wrapped it so the fingers are movable, and stuck it in a zip bag with a rubber band around the wrist while I did light chores that needed my left hand. It looks like I'll be dealing with blistering on all the fingertips and the "webbing" between the thumb and first finger. I've got the bag off right now so I can type a little. The big challenge will be trying to take a shower and wash my hair, which I'll try in an hour or so. I'm happy I'm right-handed!

Kurt brought a delicious but very large German chocolate cake home from the bakery, so I'll put some slices out for anyone's who's stopping by the PBS here tonight. I've also made a large pot of cocoa with a bowl of mini-marshmallows and another bowl of fresh whipped cream -- or a little nip of Bailey's, if y'all would like!

Enjoy the evening and the rest of the weekend! :)

Diane!!!! Gasp!!!! Oh my, your poor hand. I've done such things too, when I'm distracted, trying to do a million different things at once too. I'm sure you're kicking yourself for not using a potholder. I wondered how you were able to type and I read that you took the bag off to type that much. Put that bag back on - that's an order! I'm hoping all that you're doing will speed the healing process up.

Since I work in a school cafeteria now, the cooks manning the extremely hot ovens (all stainless, everything is stainless I might add), are always telling newbies to be VERY careful. Don't touch this, don't touch that, be careful, watch out. They scared me at first, to be flat out honest. You get all defensive thinking hey I've been around an oven or two in my day. Well, not a school cafeteria's oven I guess. No, I haven't burned myself and I got over that feeling of being reprimanded. They told me they just don't want to see anyone get burned (and there have been plenty). They're very careful of making sure you pick up a dry pot holder, not a damp one. That's what I've done here at home, grab what I think is a dry one, grab a casserole or cookie sheet only to discover halfway out of the oven, the darn this is damp and I'm getting a burn. You can't drop it but you want to. So you hurry to the stovetop or trivet. Somewhere to put it down, ASAP.

So I feel for you. Truly I do! Prayer Warriors - pray for Diane's hand!

Thanks for your concern, Mary, Sandi, and Eric. I'm being careful to keep Neosporin on the fingers and palm. The most affected skin is shiny but not bubbled, and the swelling is nearly gone as of this evening. If/when the skin peels or breaks open, I'll keep it wrapped in gauze -- or go to the doctor -- to avoid any chance of infection.

I'm on countdown to my new teaching job (teacher certification courses for adults who have bachelor degrees in fields other than education but are presently provisionally teaching in county schools because of the major teacher shortage here) -- my class begins a week from tonight. I still need to finish reading; prepare lesson plans, lecture-discussion notes, and group activities; complete and process my syllabus and mandatory program hand-outs; and get my faculty ID and parking permit. I'm really psyched up for this career move!

As noted elsewhere in this forum, spring is definitely here -- as I drive east toward the interstate on my way to work in the morning, I'm no longer just barely catching the first rays of dawn, but fully enjoying the magnificent glowing gold smile of the sun which has cleared the ocean cloudbanks.

I'll leave out a tin of delicious imported Swedish gingerbread cookies -- very thin, very crispy, and very ginger-y -- and a pot of decaf tea (so you won't be up all night!) if y'all are stopping by the PBS tonight.

Have a peaceful night! :)

Diane, I am praying for a continued and quick recovery from your burns. OUCH!!!!!

Welcome aboard Amy. Don't be scarce.

Jeremy, good to see you warming by the stove. I hope all is well with you. How are the podcasts, etc. going?

I have news! I accepted a new position with another firm tonight. The managing partner called me at home and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I am getting a very large raise and a sign on bonus! I was on the cusp of looking two weeks ago, but not actively looking and a head hunter called me up and wanted to present me to some firms. Turns out the first firm she presented me to had just been taken over by an old co-worker of mine from many years ago who still remembered me and demanded that I interview. I met with him, the other partner in the local firm(their are officies in Virgina and Texas) and two of the project managers and now the rest is history. I am scared and excited all at the same time. Going into a new situation is always scary especially when you are moving into a managing position over others that have been at the firm for a while. This will be a huge challenge, but one I cn handle and look forward to. I pray I am making the right decision. I see a whole lot more potential for this firm to grow and prosper than where I am at now. That was part of what led me to the decision.

Well that is enough for now. Everyone have a wonderful week!!!

David, I'm having fun with them but not getting many people listening as of yet. I'm hoping to debut a video version of the show sometime soon, probably in the next two weeks. As a matter of fact, I am doing one for my thoughts on the severe weather event being discussed in the severe forum. So it will go in there.

As for the remainder of my life, well I do have one complaint...stalkers suck! Muchly. I have had a bunch of teenage girls following me for some time, but it took on a whole new level about two weeks ago when they attempted to follow me down the street, harassing me the entire time. Tonight I even got an unsolicited IM from one of them. If they continue to do this the remainder of the week I will file charges against them by Friday morning. I cannot take any more of their actions toward me.

BTW congrats on the new job. :) Sounds to me like you're loving the idea.

Jeremy - is this on the campus of WNKU? If so, alert campus officials. That's terrible! Awful behavior. Hang in there buddy. Sometimes people need a personal connection to understand another person's daily struggles. If these girls have no one in their lives with disabilities, then they've never been enlightened, how sad. I was usually very understanding towards the disabled but more so now since my BIL is permanently paralyzed from a stroke. I see the world from his perspective now. And so I see others plights and daily obstacles. I'm not suggesting you enlighten these poorly misinformed young girls but someone needs to.

David - that's just great! A new challenge and I'm sure you're a little apprehensive but excited too, all at the same time. Congrats!

Diane - hope you're continuing to heal well.

Oh David, I'm so excited for you. I think you manage people quite well. You have that easy going personality but that pi$$ and vinegar to keep people in line. YIPPEE, a raise too. Can I borrow a buck or two??? Huh? Huh? Can I? Can I?

Oh Jeremy, teenagers can be such PIA's. If you can't make them understand, I would definitely report them. ((HUGS))

Mary, how's that cash register coming along??

Dee, that sounds so painful. We had a guy here at work that fell into a campfire and burned his hands. He did go to the doctor and it still took many, many weeks to heal. If it looks the least bit "angry" see your doctor!!!! We need those fingers of yours to talk to us and leave us wonderful thin Swedish gingerbread cookies. Take care.

Well, I better get busy here. I'll put on a pot of Earl Grey, stoke the fire and head on out of here.

Have a great day,
Karan

Hey everyone, good to see so many posts!! Hope your hand gets better, wow.

The weather here has been great, highs in the 70's and not too humid at all. It's suppose to be in the 80's for the rest of the week, but no chance of rain any time soon. I saw pollen on my car yesterday, I guess pine pollen? I see that a lot of you guys also live in Florida. I keep forgetting that it is winter everywhere else, lol!

Hope you guys have a good day!!

Karan - well let's see, we had a kid throw a carton of milk at us! When one 8th grader asked if he could take a milk and a piece of pie, paying us the next day, we replied with a polite no, explaining he could 'buy' a student lunch, which the milk is included with. But no pie, and my trainer took it away. He kept the milk in his hand, walked out into the cafeteria and then threw it across the floor back into the kitchen. It struck the cashier behind me, in the ankle. A teacher saw it and the whole matter is under investigation. All over a piece of pie (what he really wanted). Didn't want a burger, a slice of pizza, etc. We live in a very good school district too - lots of families out here, many stay at home mom's, two parents households and good kids.

We had two kids wrestle on the floor, all over 1 quarter. Yes, 25 cents!

Ah but you see this is Terra Nova testing week. Those kids are under stress I guess. I tried to be as nice as I could but that kid wanted pie for lunch!

I'm never even on the register. First few days, over. Several dollars each time. This week - under! And word is out, sneak extra's on your tray for the new cashier. I know it, LOL. I'm cracking the whip now. Catching them hiding stuff on their trays.

On boy asked for a quarter back from his $1.75 lunch, giving me $2. "May I have a quarter back today, please?" I guess he was one of the kids I shortchanged the previous week!

All I know is seasoned cashiers are rarely even and they'd prefer you be over. I've got to get back to short changing those kids (which I don't want to do). It doesn't come out of my paycheck, though. Is is my favorite cafeteria job - NO WAY! But it's a job and pays our tuition bills. Thanks for asking.

LOL...When I was in school I would have been suspended for the rest of my life and wach of my brothers for throwing a milk carton in the cafeteria.

I cannot believe that this has to be "investigated"....thats todays schools for you. :grr:

Well I'm back on Physical Therapy for my back... oh joy... I guess that what you get for th 18 hour plane ride back from the desert and then a continual plane ride from BWI to Charleston..... and then a couple of days later an 17 hour drive back from Charleston. Medical here on base doesn't seem to concerned about it... I was medically cleared to go through the demobilization line. Hopefully I stay off the profile... that wasn't fun (I've had one before for the same thing...my back!)

Mary... kids these days want to pick a fight over anything.. it seems they don't get the attention they 'demand' by their parents.

No. This is here in Florence. I haven't been back to campus in 2 weeks, but I might have to remedy that this week. As much as this will shock you, I think they just want to get in my pants.

Actually the ladies in the lunchroom think the milk incident isn't that big of a deal. He scooted it across the floor, not thru the air. A rash decision but no one got hurt. We thought the investigation was a good thing. If nothing else, it will shake this kid up. It could have been much worse! My point was last week was kinda boring. This week completely different! And my supervisor, head houncho over 9 cafeteria's, was observing this week. Yikes! They all joked she needed to leave me alone. And I was to write I was nervous on my register tape b/c she was watching. And oh she was watching! Not much is free when she's around (some condiments are but most are expensive, so we have to charge for them. I had to be mean today). But again, it's a job and 99.9% of the time I like this job.
