Prayers needed. Grandpa is in the hospital.

#1 Postby cajungal » Wed Mar 08, 2006 9:59 am

I got home from work around 9:30 p.m. and my mom and dad both were not home. It was unusual because my dad had to get up at 4 a.m. to go offshore. (He works 7 and 7 on an oil rig near Venice, LA) They left a note on the kitchen table telling me they were at the hospital with my grandpa. They got home around 11 p.m. to tell me that they brought him to the hospital because he was not feeling well. They ran all sorts of tests. And they found out he has a blockedge in his intestines. And he having a lot of trouble with his bladder again. They put a catherer in and said he will probably have to live with a bag for the remainder of his life. They said probably the only other option is surgery. But, it is too risky because of his age. He is 84 years old and has a weak heart. He had triple bypass surgery about 7 years ago and nearly died. My grandma died 3 years ago of colon cancer and I could not take something happening to him as well. I have another set of grandparents living in Picayune, MS. But, I am lucky if I see them once a year and they rarely call. My grandpa lives less than 15 minutes away from me and I am really close to him. He has 11 chidren including my mom. And 26 grandchildren including my brother and me. Plus 14 great-grandchildren. The hospital is only 10 minutes away, so someone will be there around the clock. Please pray that he gets better! I love him so much! Even at 84, my grandpa still lives a fairly active life. He still lives alone, still drives, and still goes in his boat to our fishing camp to fish.

Update: My grandpa is getting released from the hospital today. He said he is feeling a little better. They put in a catherer and drained out his bladder. But, he is going to have to have a bag for who knows how long. He is not going to be able to stay by himself for awhile. Somebody is going to have to stay with him around the clock. And whoever stays with him is going to have to learn how to change the bag. But, he is lucky he has a very large family who loves him and is willing to do anything to help. With 11 children, 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, he has no need to worry. He will get great care until he is 100% back to being better.
