Air Conditioning

#1 Postby blizzard » Sun Jun 01, 2003 12:53 am

I am in the market for a central Air conditioning system this summer and had a question for you guys. Do you have central air, and if you do, what brand is your unit, and do you like it's performance, noise level, etc. The units that I am pricing are 2 ton units with a seer rating between 10 and 12.5 using R22 refrigerant, we are not interested in the new puron units at this time.

Thanks for any input

TRANE here as well! It's been a great unit in a hostile (high salt) environment. When we have to replace it we'll get another TRANE! Ours has been running for about 12 years without any problems at all :-)

We have TRANE as well and it keeps it ice cold...too cold for me mind you, but Darla loves it so I put up with it! :)

I just had to throw my two cents in, we very seldom need A/C up here BUT.....the past 2 years we have. All we have is a *lil* window unit which works GREAT for us! This house is a little over a year old, we had it custom built with R-19 insulation in the floors, R-32 in the walls and ceilings, the house is just over 1300 sq ft and the that little unit keeps the house at 68° all day long!

Here in AZ...we have a TRANE. Heat pump for us...for heating in winter as well. But, I had it checked out in Feb of this year, and while I needed a new fan motor, the technician said it should be good for several more years. It has been at this house since 1990. Runs from April 15-November 1 every year since 1997. That would be my recommendation, of course.

Thank you all for the input. Sounds like trane wins hands down..... I'll just have to find a dealer around here that sells trane. Shouldn't be too hard.

we bought a trane when building our house 8 years ago. My brother got a cheaper brand 5 years ago when building his house. Mine is still going strong. Infact, too strong :D (it gets COLD in here when set at 76 degrees.) He just had to replace his after ONLY 5 years...yep, get a trane
