Another system into Southern Cali

I'll open it up for discussion.

Very cold and windy system will result in snows all the way to the valleys and foothills, and temps will struggle to reach 55. 1 to 2" of rain projected in San Diego. Great timing for my school's performance at a festival tomorrow.

This storm is shaping up to be one of the best March storms that I can remember.

SNOW:

It has already snowed in Eureka, Redding, and Taft (near Bakersfield). I didn't expect any reports of low elevation snow until at least tomorrow morning. I expect the snow level to bottom out in Southern California at 1000-1500 ft. There was also a report of sleet in Ramona (SD County Valley)

HAIL:

There have been numerous hail reports in Monterey, Santa Maria & SL Obispo. The Sacramento NWS just put out a severe weather report that stated that up to an inch hail accumulations possible.

This storm has already touched off some lightning in OC/SD counties and will further intensify over the afternoon & evening...it will be very exciting indeed, and http://www.ontarioweatherservice.com actually is tracking the storm w/some very neat graphs as well.

This would be the best March storm ever... IF I WAS NOT STUCK IN A HIGH SCHOOL IN OCEANSIDE PERFORMING... for once the dynamics and moisture is over our neck of the woods but I move northward away from the Good Stuff...

-Quarter-sized hail in Escondido
-Tornado in Encinitas
-Convective event of the year for our neighborhood, dime sized hail and traffic lights out from lightning storm (and unfortunately as I mentioned I missed it )

Well glad this day is almost over, the only good thing was seeing a rainbow on the way to Oceanside and seeing the lightning storm from a distance when we were returning... let's hope tomorrow will have as much convection but of course that will depend on how much destabalization there is, and if there is as much as there was today.

If you look closely, there is a rainbow between the 2 buildings in the lower left corner there. It is more apparent in the next picture:

And this is how the cell looked over the Pacific at 6:40 AM PST (the first 3 pics were taken at 6:40, the last at 7:20):

And snow has just been reported in the SoCal deserts! Live Camera from Borrego Springs HS, Borrego Springs, CA showing the first snowfall since December of 1987! Wow!

This is a truly amazing storm... SVR warnings for Escondido... I have experienced hail twice today. It is a rare event here... so don't laugh if I say max hail size was around a quarter of an inch in diameter. This makes it four times since the storm started that my neighborhood has experienced hail.

If I didn't have lunch while it was hailing outside I would've taken some pics of the hail out in the back porch which was covered with hail.

It's weird how far south this system is. We are on the edge of a good-sized rain shield. Looks like this complex may train from our neighborhood down to the Mex. border with areas north and south getting screwed pretty good.

With GRLevel3 down, the latest hail event caught me completely by surprise. However, when I realized what was happening, I took out my camera, opened the door, and then REALIZED MY CAMERA WAS OUT OF BATTERIES!!! And by that time since the ground was relatively warm the hail was beginning to melt.Oh well. Again pea-sized hail was covering the ground.

Wow, that's cold for southern California, especially in March. I wish I was there! Rain, hail, snow, lightning, all in one. The perfect storm for me.

Nearly the perfect storm with the exception of the lightning I missed the first day.

Coupled with the tornado outbreak, this weekend will go down as the best weekend ever wx-wise for me. The two months of boring wx and my finals and festival the busy week prior were well worth enduring to experience and track such awesome spectacles of Mother Nature.

What's amazing is the sun angle is now much higher but it STILL snowed at 1600 feet! Makes me wonder how much COLDER this could have been had it happened in January with the jetstream the same way?!?

I DO remember it snowing alot every year in Julian when I was a kid, This is not a RARE event like everyone keeps saying, however this storm, this late is.
