Good thing you did. We went through Brookhaven on the way back home - they got hit pretty good there, too.

An awesomely beautiful picture of nature, and to be followed by an equally tragic picture in sequel.

That's exactly how I felt. What a strange and hopeless feeling. Generation after generation in N.O. were always told of "the big one" and what it could do. I can remember when it hit me... like a ton of bricks... on I-20 en rote to Monroe... listening to the Mayor on 870am calling for the first mandatory evacuation in our city's history, followed by an update telling eveyone that it was a cat 5. Immediately I got a lump in my throat... almost panic-attack like symptoms. Such a strange coming down to reality.
And even after all the loss, I still can't help but be in awe of these images.

Yea...and another thing that really got to me...
I just got off I-310 onto River Road trying to get to Causeway. Right when we made the left onto River Road, they came on air saying that she had intensified again, now to 175mph. I didn't know what to do. I literally thought everything would be gone and this was the last day for Southeast Louisiana. Thank God she weakened.

The pics bring back memories of that "feeling".It all starts with the police riding the streets announcing on the p.a. that there's a mandatory evacuation.Ominous to say the least.Getting out of town, sitting in traffic, then sitting in a motel room in an unfamiliar town, glued to the t.v.,totally helpless. And numb.Just watching, hoping, and praying not only for your property, but for your friends and neighbors as well as the unknown thousands in the storm's path.Let's all hope they are all fishes this year,we all need a break.

So many times we left only to have nothing happen. This time I stayed. Only I am now in MS on the coast. After it was too late to leave I felt panicked inside but had to put up a brave front for everyone elsel
I was thanking God at that point that I had convinced my son and his new wife to evac NO. I guess I didn't fully realizze how it would effect me here in MS.
