With this graphic I dont want to scare those members who live in the gulf coast but those waters are much warmer than last year at mid march. As in this thread has been posted by me and others the GOM area is the most warmer spot in the whole Atlantic Basin right now with those anomalies running at +2.0c.

The big question is if the relativly mild winter for the Southern U.S is the cause for the waters in the GOM to be the warmest of the Atlantic now?

wow, can you imagine how warm the gulf is going to be in a few months? Think about it , SSTs HOTTER than last year!!! Oh,my goodness, its scares me to think what this could mean. I am going to be praying for everyone that lives on the gulf. I realize us here on Floridas east coast may also see a storm this season(likely so) but storm surge isnt as much as a issue. I wouldnt be surprised to see development as early as May. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

If the waters off Africa stay cool, then could we have another year of no Cape Verde storms?

I am so nervous about this year guys. That picture scares the daylghts out of me. I am making preparations like I never have before. I have even begun diverting household money into a safe spot that way I have cash on hand for possible evac. I was talking to a man this morning who like me is nervous about putting so much time and money into his home only to see the possibilty of losing it again. I think the closer we get to the season and the hotter the gulf gets, the more nervous gulf coasters are going to be about losing the progress they have made.

And thanks for keeping us updated on the temps as things evolve.

It's not just the Gulf of Mexico. The waters around Florida and the Bahamas will likely be extremely warm as well. Even as we speak, the Gulf Stream just off southeast Florida is starting to warm.
