No matter how colorful or high tech that IR, WV, SW, or Davorak gets, the most spectacular satelitte shots are visibles? Look at the Katrina, Rita, Wilma, Isabel, Ivan, Lili, Floyd exc shots, IR with all the colors of the rainbow cant beat them.

Thought it was worth mentioning in the days of technology and computer animation.

I've noticed that myself. In many cases it seems that all the high tech coloring jobs seem to do is cover up the minor details, the little nuances, that make a storm image truly spectacular.

The IR of Wilma that one night was absolutely frightening/spectacular. But yes, in general, VISs are better

I agree. All the high-tech views are obviously of enormous aid in collecting data; but for sheer awe-inspiring views, the Sat imagery is the most impressive--if for no other reason than that it shows the totality of size and shape of the entire storm.

When there's a monster cane. Vis and IR give the best display.

Not always. I like visibles because they tell you the truth - the actual clouds vs. cloud temperatures or cloud moisture content. However, Katrina IMO was more impressive on IR and WV, OTOH Wilma was more impressive on Visible. Depends on the hurricane.

I agree most of the time Sat. is the best. But there are times IR is great as well. Also I enjoy the Devorak images like this one of Rita and the stadium effect going on in the eye is just awesome.

I've always been partial to the water vapor loop for most storms. Tougher to determine exact direction, though.
