Awwww, she's a Rufus puppy!!! :)

I fell in love with Papillons when I saw the Zyrtec allergy medicine commercial where the dog owner says, "It was either get rid of the allergies...or get rid of Rufus" and Rufus looks up at her as if to say, "Huh?" After that, I was like, I have got to find out what kind of dog that is. There's one who lives a block or so from me. Such adorable dogs! (But then again, all dogs are adorable to me -- even Chinese Cresteds!)

The bacterial infection is also supposed to be treated. When I bought my Corgi, the breeder gave me some pink pasty stuff to give the puppy for two weeks just for that. It is something that puppies get.

Still saying prayers for Zoe, stormie.

cajungal wrote:Poor baby! I hope she gets better. I don't think your breeder was being completly honest with you. The breeder I got my yorkie Chloe from did not give the puppies shots. Only had the dewclaws removed and the tails docked. But, our breeder warned us about Parvo and told us to keep her inside until we brought her to the vets to get her first round of shots. Even so, some puppies still get Parvo even though they had their shots. I will be praying for your baby! Let us know how she is doing. Oh, and yes, puppies are supposed to have shots at 6 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks. We got our yorkie puppy Chloe at 6 weeks. We took her that week to get shots. Then again at 8 weeks. And we got to take her again at 12 weeks. She was born December 28, 2005, so she is going on 11 weeks.

I have never heard of puppies getting parvo after being vaccinated.

Well, I have. I know a lady who has a yorkie and he had his first round of shots and still came down with parvo.

I'm guessing that the first round doesn't really categorize a puppy as being vaccinated in the complete sense of the word. Kind of like how health care workers have to get a series of three Hep-Vac (Hepatitis B) shots or we aren't really vaccinated. And if they're aren't administered over the proper time period, the series has to be redone.

Yup......we have a strain of DEADLY parvo out here in Arizona, talked to the vet a few weeks back, it's due to the serious drought conditions we've had. It's so deadly, no matter the dog, no matter WHEN the vacc's. were given, a dog will come down with the symptoms and within 2 hours it will be die.

Stormie - I missed this thread when it first started but began praying right away when I read it now. Glad to know it wasn't Parvo and your little puppy will be okay. I'm such a dog lover now, I was before I had a Golden and an animal lover first and foremost. But I'm so much more a dog lover, it's embarrassing my kids say. While we're on vacation, if I just see a Golden being walked by it's owner, I ~have~ to pet it. This is when my family disappears - who her, we don't know that lady, at all! LOL

You sound like such a good dog owner. Zoe is in good hands I'd say. But what a scare, at the same time. You certainly didn't need getting off to a rough start like this.

I am a HUGE dog lover too. I am just like Miss Mary, I can't even walk into Pet Smart without petting every dog in the store. The same way when I take Chloe to the vets, I am petting every animal in there. I got my 11-week old yorkie Chloe spoiled rotten. I love her so much and know how much it breaks your heart when they are sick. I hope Zoe is feeling better.

I just wanted to let y'all know that I had to put my little girl down on Tuesday night.... we tried so hard and she was such a fighter but her IV vein collapsed and she couldn't keep any nutrients down, so I wanted her to go peacefully and not suffer any more than she already had. Thank you guys for your support and your prayers - I would have updated you sooner but honestly this is the first time I felt confident I could look at this thread and maintain my composure, and thats important cuz I'm at work right now....

Anyhow, thanks again for everything..... I miss my little baby with all my heart but hopefully she is in a better place now.....this world was never very kind to her, anyways. Give your little doggie friends an extra ear scratch for me tonight ... what faithful, loving friends they are.....
