Butter beans are a type of lima bean. However, they're tannish, not green. This recipe calls for one can, drained. They're soft, not mealy.

It is so funny you wrote this Dee Bee. Me and my hubby have been going round and round for years about butter beans. What his family cooks the butter beans are green. And I always say NO they are not green, they are beige/tan, hince the name butter...duh. My grandma always made homemade butter beans, yummy. I still am confused as to what bean they have been cooking all these years they call butter bean that is green. You better believe I will be showing him this post.
