How to category 5 proof your home

#1 Postby zlaxier » Wed Mar 22, 2006 5:19 pm

Anyone know much about insulated concrete forms? This building construction can withstand Category 4 sustained winds, and a lot of them are built with an interior "safe room" that has true Category 5 protection which can withstand a 3 second gust of 250 mph.

Sounds interesting. Can you or anyone else provide any links to the information?

The Pensacola Dome Home stood up to Ivan and Dennis with only a little bit of water inside during Ivan.

How many people have 400,000 to spend on a home? that is what that particular home cost if I remember correctly and there are many neighborhoods that would not allow a home like that due to their deed retrictions.

Wait a minute - I thought all members of S2K had to have at least 400K in the bank at any given time...

What should be on the gulf coast should not be closer then half mile from the coast line. The houses should be made out of steal inforced concrete...Which is 3 feet thick...The window should be a inch thick unbreakable glass.

He means Steel-reinforced concrete. Concrete, IIRC, does not rust.

The best way to Category-5-Proof you home is to move it to Nebraska (right senor?), if that's not an option, then the above suggestions are fine. ;)

houses on the water here in Boca are like 10 million. A house away from the beach range from $500K-$5 million. I can't afford either
