The latest Met Office FAX charts show this spawning a secondary low which then moves over the Rep of Ireland.

From my local met on this one, as we have been chatting on similar features:

Looks quite impressive on the satellite imagery...and on
the observations offshore...with buoy 44137 north of the center gusting
to 52 knots! I've seen this type of satellite representation showing
an 'eye-like' feature many times with very strong extratropical storms
in the winter and early spring seasons.

not really...it doesnt have any convection around the center...if it were tropical...it'd be a weak depression at best, weakened by the cold waters near Nova Scotia

na...not even close...there is a cold front attached, no deep central convection, cold core, and I can see the baroclinic type clouds on the southwest side of the storm that the NHC talks about forming as a system is killed cause its going extra-tropical...

All the same, it doesn't look *as* extratropical as some other NE'sters. It looks as though there's *some* convection trying to wrap around the center.
