Yes, because Katrina wiped towns (plural) of the map.
And extremeweatherguy, those pics you posted still dont measure up to the damage shown in Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Lake Charles...im sorry.
And btw, you did not get cat2 sustained winds from Charley in orlando.

You barely made hurricane force (obviously still enough to do damage however).

I never said I did...if you go back and look I said Cat. 1/2 force winds...meaning somewhere in between. The damage we got matched the definition of Cat. 2 on the saffir simpson scale though.Normandy wrote:Hurricane Floyd wrote:Rita did what Katrina didnt, Basicly wipe a town off the map

^^Also, here is a sustained wind swath of Charley through central Florida^^
Also...if you want to compare wind reports; this is what I found regarding Beaumont:
A STORM CHASER IN EAST BEAUMONT RECORDED A PEAK WIND GUST OF
96 MPH...OR 83 KNOTS.
And I also found mention of gusts possibly up to 105mph...very similar to what was seen in Orlando.

But Katrina left the debris, Rita left nothing but mud.

I just wanted to mark the 6 month period. I guess doing that among my Storm2k family was a bad idea.
No Kelly, it was not a bad idea. There are some of us who do understand!
I'm no doctor but alot of people have strong feelings about it, especially those heavily effected.
The storms strength doesnt matter now, whats done is done. And unlike Katrina, Ritas strength is pretty much correct or close to it, so please people. Leave her strength be.

It's like I've said before, people are hurting and they don't need anyone telling them what they should be feeling. It is not right and it is not fair for anyone to tell someone else they are not hurting. Just take a walk in their shoes.....

I'm saying though that upgrading her or downgrading her wont change what happened, thats not opinion thats the truth.
Dwelling on this isnt going to make people feel any better, With Katrina I can understand because almost everything supports a category 4, But Rita was about 115 give or take 5mph, let it go its not going to change anything.

Much more of a LA storm... no surge and cat 1/2 winds in your area...
Ya know I'm going to go out on a limb here and say "TROLL"!!!
One-shot trolls
One-shot troll messages are intended to be disruptive, and tend to be very obvious to ensure that they will receive annoyed replies.

That message seemed to be intended to create some type of reaction by other memebers. Either that or he is clearly not very smart as a comment like that is not good one on this forum and maybe should be done somewhere else. You do not tell someone a storm they went through wasn't bad especially since it wiped locations off the map near the coast. Just becuase the winds were catagory 2 doesn't mean the won't do any damage. In an area where they have not been affected much in recent decades there is going to tend to be more damage in an area that has been hit more recently.
Southerngale we are all sorry for what you and your family and communities there in texas and western LA have gone through. These are trying times we face and we must continue on.

Actually I would argue that the report on Katrina is correct. "Almost everything" does not support a category 4.With Katrina I can understand because almost everything supports a category 4
As for Rita, this was not so much a debate over Rita's winds (which I also agree with the report on...meaning Cat. 1/2 in Beaumont, and Cat. 2/3 at the coast), but it became more of a debate over Charley. I was told that my area did not see anything close to what Beaumont saw from Rita and I had a completely different opinion. Is there anything wrong with backing up your beliefs? I do not see how anything I have said is hurting anybody or anybody's feelings. Storm2k is here to discuss and debate meteorology right? I am also not trying to tell people what to think...everybody can have their own opinion on things, and that is what I am doing. I have been simply giving my opinion and trying to back it up with meteorological evidence and pictures.
