Actually, it wasn't the first Solar eclipse in three years as we had an Annular-Total last year in April (which was a small partial in parts of the US) and an Annular in October. It WAS the first fully total Solar in three years. The 2003 Total Solar in November of that year was unique in that it occured at local MIDNIGHT in Antarctica.
