Florida's emergency manager, Craig Fugate, is here announcing a life-saving effort. . . .
It's the creation of "COAD". . . . Which stands for, community organizations active in disaster.
And here's why it's important to you. . . . . Escambia County is the first county in Florida to get the idea off and running. . . . .
Businesses, churches, volunteers, schools, and governmental agencies will now work *together to prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate against disasters like hurricanes.
COAD leaders say after Ivan. . . The need for a group to manage long-term recovery became very apparent.
((Jean Norman: "And as we're finding following Ivan and Dennis it is a very long, it's a multi-year process. "))
Leaders say an affective coad will result in reduced injuries and deaths, property losses and environmental damages. .
