Yeah... this will be all the more reason to avoid CBS News(like I needed another

I honestly don't think this is somehow going to magically skyrocket them to the top of the evening newscasts anyway. The newscasts are losing viewers to 24-hour cable news and the internet every week.
They very well could beat ABC though... whose ratings are down since Jennings died.

Perky? Have you watched the Today show lately. She has seemed very irritable. The only reason I watch Today is because of Al and Ann.
I actually have been watching Bob Schieffer occasionally, but once Katie is there... I'm gone.

That is very true. I mean Scott Peterson, Natalie Holloway, that girl that went missing in New York and got killed, those stories are not fundamental issues facing the nation. Too often those stories get 24/7 coverage and issues of huge import are ignored because "the public doesn't care."
It's the media's job to make the public care.

Why don't you like her?
I agree though. I think Brian Williams is the best of the big three right now. I watch him each week night.
Actually, I didn't say I didn't like her. I just said that I still wouldn't be watching her.

I don't watch the Today Show nor the CBS Evening News. I get most of my news from Fox News, etc. and/or internet and only see network news occasionally, and usually not intentionally. lol

I've always liked Katie Couric, she seemed like the girl next door. Someone you could relate to and real. When her husband died of colon cancer, it really hit home with me (I was diagnosed within a year after he died). I thought she was very brave having a colonoscopy, live on the air. I cheered her on.
That said, I've watched several interviews with her since then that just made me cringe. When Friends was ending it's amazing 10 year run, I watched any and all Friends specials I could. Being the diehard Friends fan I was. Katie hosted a primetime special with all 6 and I believe she interviewed them one by one, so maybe it was filmed over several days, edited and aired all in one special. Anyway, she was practically gushing and blushing, hanging onto Matt LeBlanc's arm. I half expected her to ask for an autograph. She crossed that line, IMO. She became a giddy, fanatical Friends fan. You could tell Matt L. was taken back but gracious too. He answered her questions but it was just awkward to watch that interview. She even took away my focus - sad that Friends was ending - darn her perkiness! She was too giddy and perky and all I wanted to do was cry. I wanted her to get a really good interview, not something The Star would ask! Serious Journalistic type questions.
She interviewed someone else like this, I want to say George Clooney. Her style was flirtatious and not appropriate IMHO.
I'm not sure she's still like this and maybe this is what turned viewers off. It turned me off but I never watched network am news much. Unless a breaking news story was hapening. It sounds like she stopped interviewing handsome male actors like this. Whew - glad she did.
I do wish her well in this next career endeavor. She'll do okay. I just want her to be kind, serious and fair. Not giddy (ie perky).
