I am puzzled about the no retirement of Emilys name after all the damage and deaths it cause in many places in the Caribbean.

That is a bad decision, in my opinion. Emily should have been retired.

It would not suprize me if Emily became a cat5 in moved into Miami in 2011. She is very very mad when I talked to her earlier today. She says damn it I wented retired but I guest got to do better.

I would watch Emily in 2011. She is going to be the bad one.

I agree, Brent. Emily caused a huge amount of damage and flooding in the Caribbean and Mexico. In fact, Emily may have more reasons to be retired than Stan.

Sure this thread is for this theme to have discussions about this decision from the WMO committee.

Rina <---> Rita
I guess they ran out of inspiration :wink:
But indeed very strange they didn't retire Emily, especially considering all the damage she caused.

Emily caused about 550 million dollars worth of damage so it was a pretty damaging storm in that regards.

Do you think they may change their minds and retire Emily later on? If not, she should have been retired now.

Maybe we should petition the WMO for a change, and have them approve it in the 2007 meeting? I remember Lili was hesitated on, but approved in 2004 (one year late).

That might be necessary... is that how you make a request for another name that wasn't retired initially to be retired eventually?

Mexico rarely reports very publicly on a storm, even if it has caused bad damage. Mexico was also a bit reclusive about telling about Wilma's destruction publicly.

It might be so. I know the US made the request for Wilma, and Guatemala probably made the request for Stan. Any storm that makes landfall twice as a major hurricane should be retired.

Grenada would have had a borderline case in retiring Emily; they could have been the ones making the request.

Wasn't it Jamaica who got Gilbert retired?
