House was broken into today

#1 Postby Air Force Met » Thu Apr 06, 2006 7:13 pm

Guys...my wife came home to a house robbery today. They got the laptop, a bunch of jewelry (important stuff...like her mother's ring and her original wedding ring) and some of my coin collection. It could have been much worse and we are insured.

Say a prayer for us...the kids are traumatized and she is afraid to be alone because I have some trips coming up soon.

Thanks.

This just goes to show that some people aren't happy unless they ruin other lives.

Thoughts and prayers coming from your fellow Texan.

Nelson, that is horrible. I am so sorry. I'll bet your family is traumatized, they have every right to be. Of course I'll say a prayer. Tell your wife she can come visit with us if she wants company while you are gone.

Nelson,

Being a criminal investigator and processing more than 8 scenes a WEEK JUST like this, I know how you feel. Your feeling violated to say the least.........

With the advances in the field of forensics, the chances of catching these SCUMBAGS is pretty GOOD......as LONG as the investigator got some good latent prints and usable DNA.

Good luck.

On Halloween night in 1986, we came home after picking up our daughter from a Party. I went in first and saw a mess in the house with coke spilled all over the kitchen floor-then I heard noises in the back and someone going out the window in the main bedroom. It seems that we had interrupted a break in and they got only a few items. Another attempt in broad daylight resulted in a broken kitchen door. We moved out shortly after. I've had to replace a lock on my front door when someone broke off what they were using to pick the lock with inside the lock. One night we had an attempt while I was asleep-this happened a couple of nights after I called the Police about a vacant until that was broken into (believed to be illegals or a drug party). My van and trailer have been broken in to and slept in which means most probably by illegals.
I usually sleep with a very large knife under the bed (great for beheading) My son has a throwing knife close at hand-his idea being to distract the perp long enough so that he can get up and aim a very damaging kick at the perp (he tests for Black Belt in Tae Kwan Do in September)

I am so sorry to hear that! I would be frightened too and feel very insecure. I do hope that they are able to catch them!

Nelson I am so sorry to hear that. I would get an alarm. They have specials on install and they run about 30.00 a month monitoring. That would give peace of mind and a sign in the yard to deter intruders. adt.com

I'm so sorry to hear this. Of course I'll pray for you all. I'm sure the kids are traumatized. I'm guessing they or you both won't sleep well tonight.

Hope they catch the crooks. Good advice on the alarm and a large dog (shelter rescue maybe?) would be a good idea too!

Nelson, Sorry to hear of the violation of your home, and the loss of personal items which insurance can't replace!! I'm happy to hear you didn't interrupt a robbery by someone carrying a loaded gun who would have been happy to shoot you in order to get away! The world is gettting to be such a dangerous place, there's no way to regain a total sense of security once you've been victimized.

If I had the money, I'd install security system with hidden, motion-sensor-activated cameras. Then I could hope to provide police with video of the perps if ever broken into again. I'd choose a security company that has good rating in the community, good relationship with law enforcement (not a lot of false alarms, etc.) and is eager to work with you until your family regains some sense of well-being within your home.

Fingerprint (biometrics) keypads are gaining popularity, very inexpensive, and prevent you having to mess with punching in codes or carry around keycards (which can be stolen). Here's one under $200!
http://www.biometricsdirect.com/Products/FA/FS-310.htm
To me (I'm in security) a good system would be one that uses fingerprint plus a short pin #. This way, just like in traditional key-code systems, if you are being forced to disarm the system under threat, you can key in a "hostage code" and still enter the home, but the security company knows something is wrong and alerts the police.

We have it ready to set up...but had just moved here and hadn't had the time. The phones had just been set up. :-(

Nelson, I feel so bad for you. What a way to start out in your new home. ((HUGS)) to your wife and kids. I can't even imagine how violated they feel. I'll be praying for your family.

I have a dan in Ninpo Taijutsu (Budo Taijutsu)...which most of the world knows as ninjutsu. I've been out of it a while with my preaching and education responsibilities...as well as my military ones. However, I still have my techniques and needless to say it wouldn't have been the best thing for either of us for me to have walked in on him. There is a reason those who practice Budo Taijutsu are not allowed into martial arts tourneys. Most of the "techniques" are not user friendly. Add to that, I've studied Dim Mak (ask your son...he'll KNOW what that is)...and as I've increased in age and decreased in speed, I've added it to suppliment the decrease in abilities because I don't practice like I used to. I also added some Gung Fu to my play book (mostly the pressure point aspects of Gung Fu).

So...my wife feels very safe when I'm around...it's when I'm gone that's the problem.
