Run cold water for about 15-20 minutes, then take acetominophen for the pain, then place bandage of affected area w/ antibiotic ointment.

Yes, and lay an ice cube in a washcloth and lay the burn on it for a while too.

Per WebMD:

Liquid scald burns (thermal burns): Run cool tap water over the burn for 10 to 20 minutes. Do not use ice.

I've always been told to take Advil or Motrin (ibuprofen) because it's an anti-inflammatory...

No, no cream.

and no ice. You will further damage the skin if you place ice over it and cream does nothing for it.

Ice is good and they sell cream for burns... just ask the pharmacist.

None of those, but the only ointments you can use are anitbiotics and the intrates that alicia described, that is pretty much it.

Call Walgreen pharmacy and one of the pharmacists will prescribe something over the counter, just like they do with severe sunburns.

Ice is a NO NO for burns. (My mom was a doctor, so I know this by experience...) Silvadene is a great cream for burns, but is not available OTC, by prescription only.

Sunburns are radiation burns, while scalding is a thermal burn. You cant necessarily treat them the same way. Sunburns can be treated with lidocaine and such but that isnt recommended for thermal burns.

Yes, that is why she should call the pharmacy. They can suggest for the different type of burns. There may be an over the counter med that might work. If she needs a prescription, she will have to see a doctor and he can prescribe something for her.

(Kinda funny you say that because 80% of my uncles and aunts are doctors and about 10% are lawyers, lol go figure) Anyways, here in one of the villages I volunteer in, I use Sulfamylon and Levaquin and cephalexin for more advanced burns. However, herbally I use Calendula.
