Lots of science stuff and little time -- going camping for the weekend so please forgive any typos and my briefness.

Definitely no cream -- creams and ointments hold in the heat. That's not going to help the burn. Like Alicia said, silvadene, if anything, and that's only available by prescription.

As for ice, think about the different phases of matter -- solid, liquid, gas. Cold water cools the skin easier because, in its liquid state, it has the ability to cover the area and cool it better without freezing the skin cells.

Always be careful around steam also. Steam at 100 degrees burns worse than water at 100 degrees because of the state it is in also. Think about how much longer it takes steam to cool to the liquid stage. It doesn't make sense when you think in terms of the number (degrees), but if you think about the molecular stuff going on, it does.

Jeez, that was too fast. I hope I helped ya understand. Take care and feel better soon! :)

I do not know what would really work, that is why I would call a pharmacist. My husband is the doctor in our house, not me.

I am assuming that you think I am not. Using Silver Sulfadiazine is alright in my book, but, it has too many side effects for my liking. When you work with the poor and helpless, that is when you really learn about medicines and the like. SouthFloridaWx, either of the ointments discussed by Alicia, Galvestonduck, or my self should be used it is up to you. Either way, I highly doubt you suffered anything worse than first degree burns maybe slightly secon, but close. The nerves don't like being bothered by extreme heat, it just does funny things and it is painful. Good luck in treating your burn.

Great idea...... always good to talk with a pro.

Let us know what they say. I may be way off about the ice. I think I was thinking of swelling, like what they put on ankles, etc. when they swell up.

My husband is a doctor, not home, and I do not know anything about it...

I do my reactions in the kitchen.

Just to let you know when my daughter got a bad burn on her belly, the pharmacist recommended these bandages that are wet. You tape them to the wound so when you pull it off it doesn't stick to the burn. Even with creme guaze can stick to the burn. It also helps promote healing, and keeps infection out. It is like a clear jelly on one side of the bandage and dry on the other. An awesome bandage for burns. Her burn healed wonderfully and barley no scar.

Ok guys I'm back and i'm feeling a H E double hockey-sticks alot better now. I ended up going to my local walk-in clinic and waited there a few minutes and the doctor saw me. He immediately knew what to do. He asked me how I treated it. I filled up the sink and put some.. not alot of ice cubes in it, so it would make it cooler. That kept the skin from blistering he said that was a good idea. He said it was only 1st degree burn and then he wrote me a prescription for thermadine (silvadine) and they put it on my arm and bandaged it up. At first it hurt like hell but, then after about 30 minutes it started going away. It is feeling alot better now and I dropped off my prescription at walgreens. Thanks for all of your thoughts and help I really appriciate it. Something told me to ask you guys what i should do. That is why I love this site cause everyone is so nice and supportive thank you.

Additionally I have been having chronic heartburn and while I was at the doctors I told him about it and he gave me a prescription for nexium. I was sooo happy that i got that now I can begin to stop the heartburn.

That is great news. I have a prescription for heartburn too. I have an inflamation and my doctor said this one bottle should clear it up. Hey, we are in the chatroom, come over.
