Just call me brilliant!

#1 Postby wx247 » Mon Apr 10, 2006 8:53 am

So as I am leaving church yesterday evening I decide that the people on the sidewalk to the parking lot are moving too slow for me so I hop off the sidewalk out into the grass and head toward the car. About halfway there, I am busy talking to someone and don't notice a big HOLE in the ground and plop... down I go!

Being the ever gracious person I am, I dust myself off and say I am fine. Continue walking to the car like normal, not paying attention to my throbbing left leg. I stop by Subway and grab a bite to eat and then come home, where on arrival I realize... my left leg really hurts! When I try to get out the car, it is like a pain I have never felt before... not like when I broke my arm, different... but I make it into the house. I have my leg wrapped and have ointment on it and made it downstairs by sliding down the stairs on my bum. Aren't I the most brilliant person you have ever chatted with online?

I hope it isn't broken. I don't have time to learn to walk on crutches... haha. If it isn't better soon(which I suppose it won't... I've fallen many time... none with this result) I will be going to see my doctor. Oh fun!

So sorry to hear that. Yes, if things get worse, have it checked. Remember, the strong survive... Good Luck

Also, nice pic. Is that you? It would be nice if everyone had a pic up; then we would kind of see who we are talking to. A little more personal.

ouch! hope you recover soon. i know how you feel. last year i was walking to my car and decided to take a shortcut. I tripped on a tree root and landed flat on my face. I ended up cracking a rib because i was carrying one of those cookie tins and landed on it. It knocked the wind right out of me! It was about 5 pm, so most folks were already gone and no one saw it. i was still embarrassed.

So funny you should say something about falling into a hole. Our extended family got together at the park last night to eat some hot dogs and hamburgers and I was walking with food in my hand to a picnic table and boom, down I went. As you did I got up brushed off and picked up my plate with half the food still on it and sat down and chuckled a bit about it. There are a few big holes from where big oak trees went down in Charlie and the ground has settled and left behind some pretty big holes with nice green grass grown on top so they are hard to see. I only suffered minor embarassment, no injuries. I hope your leg is okay. Maybe a sprain since you have broken something before and it doesn't feel the same. I guess just stay off it as much as possible and if it continues to hurt xrays are in order. Keep us posted.

I'm sorry Garrett but I busted out laughing! I hope there's nothing seriously wrong with your leg. Thanks for getting me in a good mood!

Well I went to the doctor and I found out that there is a sac between your kneecap and your joint to help absorb shock in the event of a fall so that you don't break things. Well, apparently when I went down yesterday I ended up rupturing the sac... therefore it is partially "deflated" and when I bend my knee I am essentially rubbing the kneecap up against the joint without that sac. I am to be off of my leg for two days and then only gradual increase in activity is allowed. I am taking a bunch of meds to help repair the sac which should be back to "normal" in about 10 days. That is going to seem like an eternity, but I will survive!

Janice... that pic is not of me. That is of my favorite character on the ABC hit show LOST. I am male, so that definitely is not me.

CM... glad I can make someone's day. My mother was with me when I fell and laughed all the way home until she realized it was somewhat serious.

And Dennis... I love it! :D Brother Grace... I won't forget that!

Garrett - Brother Grace - I love it. You know this nic is gonna stick, don't ya? LOL

Wow, so sorry to hear about your fall and knee. Sounds painful! Very. I've been brilliant in my own way, spraining ankles. I've sprained both and fractured one about a dozen times over the past 25 years. Now I look down when I walk, not at the person I'm walking with - otherwise I miss curbs, cracks in sidewalks, you name it, my foot finds them. Unless I look. I also don't walk on icy pavement, I take the grass. Silly things I do now so I can avoid a sprain - I swore May 21 2004 was my last mishap and knock on wood, it is.

You really beat yourself up when you do something like this!

Take care of yourself.....Brother Grace! Or would you rather we called you Libby? LOL Before you answer, remember that last scene from last week's show (that we missed BTW) and see which one you'd rather be!!!!

Had to laugh at that mental picture, but now you know how I climb up and down stairs.

Hope it gets better quick buddy.

Garrett....SON....you better listen to Mama Breeze and care for that leg! You
KNOW how I tend to fuss at you!

I'm glad that you had it checked out, though. Otherwise, you know
that I'd of been screaming, "Get it X-rayed", right?

Easy on it, Brother Grace. And do what the good doc says.

Do whatever the Dr. says! I have had one of my knees put back together twice. It is currently held together with pins and wires. I don't take a single step without at best being "aware" of it and sometimes with much pain. The second repair was because I did something stupid while recovering from the first surgery. Be careful until it heals!

I speak from experience...... take care of your knees!!!

Your reaction to the fall is the same as most of us. Get up, brush ourselves off, see who was watching, and move on....pain or not.

While I am sure it is painful, I am glad it is not worse.

God works in mysterious ways. Trying to figure out His message is sometimes quite the challenge!

Get well soon, Garrett.
