I love New Orleans and can't wait to meet everyone. I am really looking forward to it. I will always love the city despite what has happened in the past. Living only an hour drive away from New Orleans, it has been like my second home. I actually feel safer going there now than I did before Katrina.

public defenders and that they are so backloged... they will
likely be releasing thousands of " poor indigent criminals"
back onto the streets... I'm with you Mary...

You only heard half the story....most of these "poor indigent criminals" where picked up by the police before the storm for crimes such as public drunkenness and other minor crimes...also your great radio station forgot to mention that these people more than likely served more time because of the storm and the backlog than if they were to be processed in the correct manner.....THEY ARE NOT RELEASING KILLERS AND RAPIST BACK ON THE STREET. Sorry if i sound mean but I am sick and tired of people getting half the story and talking bad about the state that i have grown up in and love very dearly

Hey... Please don't shoot the messenger! It's not MY great radio station. I'm in Mississippi. I'm just telling you what i heard on the radio this morning, that's all. We have no idea who they will really be relaesing, or if they release anyone at all. I would like to meet all y'all. I'm just not feeling good about New Orleans right now. especially when i hear stories like that on the radio. That's just me. Y'all have a gret time! take some pics! I'll try and make the next get-together!

I'm not sure why you won't take the word of people who live there/visit there often, over some random radio reports, but I wish you wouldn't. It truly is safe there.

A couple of weekends ago I was on Bourbon and surrounding streets on Saturday night. The crowd was about 1/3rd the pre-K crowd. Very, very tame.

A party in Nu Orlins, He-- yeah! Count me in as a Definite Maybe.

If I go I'm staying overnight( no DUI), where are most of yall staying.

I've stayed at the Best Western fairly cheap before on a bachelor party, pretty close and all you need is a place to crash.

It's being overhyped as if thousands of murderers and rapists are right their drooling at the prospect of release into the unexpected masses of New Orleans, when the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of these inmates are in places OTHER than New Orleans after having been evacuated in the first place. Personally, I doubt these would be breaking a sweat to get back to New Orleans even IF the release was made, which I seriously doubt. Also, the Governor, (who is NOT one of my favorite people) is also moving to get more public defenders, so that justice will be served and the indigents will still get adequate public defense, and FINALLY, the "set release date" threatened by the judge in question is NOT UNTIL THE SUMMER--which would put it after our get-together in the first place.

While it is a sad story, it is being over-hyped IMO, and I'm convinced we'll have a great time.

Guess what? I just found out that May 20th is Nicholls State University's graduation. There is only 3 people including myself that work in my department. And even though I already put May 20th in the computer, the other girl is graduating that day and also needs the same day off. Unless my boss hires someone else soon, it will cause a conflict. If all else fails, the store opens at 9. I can ask to work no later than noon. My boss is usually real understanding and will work something out with me. Then, go home to get ready. I don't think LSU weatherguy is picking me up until 2:30-3:00. So, I will still have plenty of time to go home and get ready for the night.
