find this post quite offensive to the person who started the thread. First of all, doesn't it seem logical that a person from Location A would be more interested in an article referring to Location A than one referring to Location H since the matter being discussed could directly affect them? That's just common sense. Secondly, I find it a little on the surprising side that this is mentioned in a thread about Texas when there's a million Florida threads by Florida people. And then after commenting about KatDaddy posting this because it was about his area being potentially affected, you chime in that your area has a better shot at being hit by a major. Just a little ironic, but I PRAY you're right about Texas. We've had enough over here!

I don't know about the rest of the mods, but reading through this whole thread at once, I don't think the attitudes in here are helping much in trying to get Storm2k back to what it was...a friendly place for discussion where people can post comments and ask questions without the fear of getting ridiculed. Perhaps you should read this thread again...

Thank you for this opinion. The point I am trying to make is that we as members get nothing out of threads like this. I once posted threads like this (for FL) and realized it is a waste of time talking about it because nobody truly knows. Also regarding the Florida input - based on historical statistics - FL has a higher percentage chance of getting hit by a hurricane than Texas, of course, anything could happen.

Then we get nothing out of the majority of the threads here, which include a lot of speculation. But honestly, if you don't get anything out of it, just pass it up. I don't participate in threads that don't interest me, nor do I reply in them just to make a harsh comment toward the person who started it. The old adage comes to mind...if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. :)

And the point was never who had a higher chance of getting hit...we all know Florida does. Read my comments above.

skysummit...thank you.

Okay... simmer down, y'all, simmer down.

Regardless of your views of AccuWeather and/or Bastardi, which should "relax" on the bashing. That is one thing we try to avoid on this board... "attacking" others. Now, KatDaddy posted this not to be shot by everyone. I'm not trying to put words in KatDaddy's mouth, but I would assume he posted this to stir up worthy conversation. Instead of hoisting up the BS flag, how about we try to discuss the subject at hand? Whether you agree or disagree with JB's forecast, discuss why--as long as your arguement is not "cuz it's slackuweather" or "cuz it bastardi".

Okay... carry on...

I for one do agree with the prediction. With the Gulf of Mexico being so warm and a neutral to slightly la nina season forecasted...it looks like the east coast and gulf coast will both be in on the action this year (again). I also like the idea that Texas may get hit once or twice due to the westward movement in storm tracks in the last three years.

No hard feelings here either, boca chris. :) I just wanted to put a stop to all of the bashing and I didn't think it was fair to KatDaddy.

Back on topic...I hope Accuweather is wrong and Texas doesn't even see a real threat. I think it would be a bit traumatic to those of us hit by Rita last year. I can't imagine what people in the panhandle of Florida last year were going through with Dennis approaching, after being hit by Ivan the previous year. Let's just hope and pray there are no major threats to land this year. I can dream, can't I?

Edit: Thanks Linda

Bastardi did say that the forming Nor'Easter that tried, but failed for the most part, to capture Wilma would give Northern Maine it's first real snowfall, and it did. This was about four days out, as I recall. In my area (being five miles East of the Boarder) it was just rain, but it to the NW like in Houlton and Preque Ilse there was up to a foot of the white stuff. As such I give him some credit.

Folks it's going to be another long year. We really don't need bashing of any sort. Whether it's a forecast from NWS, NHC, Accuweather etc we all need to keep in mind that these are professional organizations and have earned the right to be treated as such. I expect all of our members to keep this in mind. :-)

I want to add a little bit to this. We do have members on this site from the professional organizations listed above and others. I for one would be very upset if I was one of them and came onto a site and found some of the things I have seen posted in the past about persons and organizations. We want a friendly discussion atmosphere here for EVERYONE!!!! Think about it for a minute-wouldn't it be great if we had NWS mets(we have quite a few as members)openly discussing the weather with us? Maybe they would be more open to it if the atmosphere was better??? Same goes for SPC, NOAA, NHC, Accuweather, etc. It is called common courtesy and respect folks. Please use it.

Its just a prediction, if you don't like it don't respond that's all. When we have true facts that a hurricane is baring down on a locale then we can say Tampa , Miami , Houston or New York is goona get it. Katdaddy has been a poster here for a long time and I feel he was just stating a prediction on accuweather beliefs that all. My 2 cents.

Yes I posted this purely for discussion and to not start a Joe B bash thread. I for one respect Joe B's bold forecasting. Sometime he is right on and other times he is off.

I think we all understand that Katdaddy. :-) As to discussion in general, I have no problem with taking someone to task for a blown forecast. As Senorpepr said earlier though, disagree with a forecast for a reason. :-)

I beleive it was joe who predicted katrina, or was it rita? anyway, he predicted it as a problem maker way before anyone picked up on it. that was one time when he was right. i agree, lets not bash, instead, lets see how we can learn from the pro mets.

We have rules on this board against bashing, plain and simple. Some members prefer certain organizations/sources for their weather information, some prefer others. That's just how it is.

JB in his pro column last night is pretty much coming out and predicting an early season storm (June, early July) for the western Gulf. The word "hurricane" was used. He says semi-permanent troughs setting up along the east and west Coast and believes some kind of trough split will commence storm formation in the western Gulf. That and boiling water temps in the western GOM will lead to trouble.

Now that he has come out on record, we can watch and see how/if it verifies.

It is possible. It's been real dry along the East Coast, much like the last season (1995) a semi-permanent trough set up. And 1995's landfalls were primarily gulf coast landfalls, and fish.

I should add that Joe also sees a very strong ridge setting up shop this summer over the Southern Plains and retrograding, on occasion, to the Southwest. My guess is that this particular feature would be the main predicator for where an early season western GOM hurricane would track.

Well....let's just see what happens. I agree we may see an early season hurricane, and my bet would be somewhere in the gulf. It just looks like this year, the gulf is setting up once again to be the executive suite for hurricanes.

Unfortunately ... .... you may be correct.

I think most of us would welcome soaking rains this summer ... but given the state of disarray still in Louisiana and east Texas, any hurricane hit would be dreadful.

For that matter, I know NE Mexico took several hits last year from hurricanes and while we don't see much media coverage, my guess is that those areas are also slowly and painfully recovering.
