this one's bad too:

AUSTIN, Texas Apr 17, 2006 (AP)— The dismembered remains of a 22-year-old woman were found in a car driven by her aunt and uncle, officials said Sunday. Latoya Finley was last seen Feb. 24, when she told her family she was going to Los Angeles to pursue her music career.

Abilene police stopped the car in early February after a short chase, and discovered the remains in the back seat and trunk after taking the aunt and uncle into custody, Travis County Sheriff's Detective Chris Rowland said.

Sheriff's investigators identified the remains Sunday.

"It's a pretty sad story," Rowland said. "And when we get a chance to tell you, it's pretty disgusting."

Karen Denine Bunton, 38, and Tony Holmes, 26, were being held in the Taylor County Jail in Abilene on outstanding warrants. No charges have been filed in the death.

Bunton was driving the car, which belonged to Finely, and has told investigators she had her niece's permission to use the vehicle while she was in California.

Bunton was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle. She faces charges in Travis County of pawning Finley's digital camera. State law prohibits people from pawning items that do not belong to them.

Holmes was arrested on a theft charge from Travis County unrelated to Finley's disappearance, Abilene police said.

Kidnap, rape, torture, strangle, necrophilize, decapitate, dismember, cannibilize.

Remove any seven of the eight acts above...and it's still sick behavior.

Yes, I think its the connectivity, I think there has always been sick deranged people like this but they were never caught or fewer were. It is harder to get away with this kind of behavior in this day and age and also the population has exploded, so now we have more of the sickos than ever. :x :grrr:

I have no idea. Apparently when the police got into his apartment Friday, he said "Go ahead and arrest me, she's in there". It's pretty obvious... he has a blog and has reportedly dreamed of cannibalizing someone before.

I imagine it's a combination of both. We're becoming more aware of them...and they are becoming more aware of those from the past (and present) who share their obsessions and ways of thinking.

Many of these freaks seem to be obsessed with other serial killers, wishing to copy their crimes. Having the information superhighway makes it faster and easier for them to read articles and stories about killers of the past. They feed off that, as well as the instant access to pornographic and macabre materials. I don't want to start a censorship debate (politics!), but no one can deny that some things are far too easy to access on the internet as opposed to how it used to be in the past. Twenty years ago, we simply didn't have all this instant information at our fingertips.

However, serial killers and cannibals have been around for years. So, I also agree that we're simply becoming more aware of them because news and online discussions.
