Technically, CA was overdue for another big one the day after April 18, 1906 given the historical record. Magnitude 7+ shocks can occur anywhere in CA at anytime. Right now, the big worries are the San Andreas along the SF Peninsula, the Hayward in the East Bay, the Rodgers Creek north of San Pablo Bay, The San Andreas from San Bernardino south, the San Andreas north of SBD to Fort Tejon and the Carrizo Plain along with any one of the many hidden thrust faults in the L.A. Basin. Though dwarfed by other very large shocks since, the 1906 Earthquake is considered one of the most important, if not the most, shocks from a scientific standpoint as modern seismology got it's start from the study of this event and the Elastic Rebound Theory that came out of that study is still valid today.
