CFS is forecasting a large area of greater than 0.5 SD above normal water temps for ASO in the Caribbean. I wonder what could happen if the SSTs warm some.. maybe to 1998 levels rather than 2005 levels... and the upper winds stay this favorable. I might up my forecast to 10 hurricanes...

whats scary to me is that it seems like that very warm water is spreading into the gulf and better yet the carribean. :eek:

I'm not sure why so many get caught up in the SST's like they seem to be, expecting dire hurricanes.

If SST's alone were the case, why is the Pacific not pumping out canes as we speak?


Might just be a trick question for the "dooms-dayers"....;)

No...not expecting canes right now. Just remember what Katrina and Rita did when they hit the boiling waters of the gulf.

Gotta get the waves... and more instability in the middle layers in the form of increased RH for the epac to get going. the waves will be a-coming in a few weeks... then the seasonal cycle of the atmosphere will allow stuff to try to develop in May.. amazing how consistent the EPAC is in starting compared w/most basins.

That cool pool of water near south america is very simular to the one in may 1999 before that La Nina got going.

In my opinion I think La Nina is pretty much gone.Only time will tell though.
