I get the feeling that Landrieu and Forman probably split a lot of the, uhm, ah, please don't hit me for saying it, but a lot of the white vote.
It's possible those who voted for Forman would swing to Landrieu and really give Nagin a run for the money, but I have a feeling Nagin will win. He will then feel that it's acceptable to act as foolishly as he has been in the months since Katrina, and NOLA will be under the thumb of a laughingstock.

Most New Orleans voters voted for change. Nagin got 38% of the vote, and I don't expect that number to go up much, if at all. Landrieu should win the runoff in pretty easy fashion. And while I voted for Couhig, I'd be happy with Mitch as my mayor. He's more than capable, and I believe he'll do a great job.

Interesting numbers from the election here.

Landrieu: 2nd behind Nagin in predominantely black precincts, 2nd behind Forman in predominantly white precincts

I too was hoping for a better Couhig turnout--probably would've done better had the race lasted about a month longer and he got a lot more money, he might have made the cut. Unfortunately, I don't see Landrieu as much of a "change" candidate at all, JMHO, but I'll eschew further comment for fear of breaching the "politics" border. Suffice it to say, I wish New Orleans well; but I also wish there'd have been a different candidate in the runoff. The BIG question, to keep it on a S2K level, is how well will the next person in the mayor's office prepare the city for another (God-forbid) hit...and will they take a "realistic" approach to rebuild and recover, as opposed to demagoguing the issue, and will they actually try to get that MRGO CLOSED!... I'd LOVE to hear one of 'em address those!....
Hurricane protection and wetland restoration... ACTION will be needed whoever the mayor turns out to be.
