Both IAH and Hooks have recieved nearly 2" of rain from this mornings storms! :D Also, I was just watching CNN and it looks like there is major damage in the Gainesville, TX area. They also showed good footage of a destroyed gas station and a hail storm that went on elsewhere in the state. I also noticed that there have been reports of tornadoes to the North and East of Houston this morning, and up to 4 people (according to TWC) are injured near Lake Livingston.

CrazyC83 wrote:I do agree that the pattern is setting up for a monster outbreak after this break ends...look at the second half of March and what followed that. Here is the setup I see:

Last week of May around Memorial Day: Hot, humid weather across much of the eastern US, with a stable southwest flow from the Gulf and all the cold air blocked to the far north of Canada.

June 1: Powerful low forms over the northwestern Plains and a cold front comes down from it. The jet stream separates air in the 60s and low 70s with dewpoints in the 30s in the High Plains the next day from the humid 90s and dewpoints in the 70s to the east.

June 2: Low moves northward over Lake Superior along the jetstream. Cold front triggers an endless swarm of tornadoes in the afternoon and evening across the Plains and Midwest from Minnesota to Oklahoma and east to the Mississippi Valley and across it in the overnight hours. Supercells keep firing up in the air mass.

June 3: The swarm continues as the low moves northeast into far northern Ontario. The Ohio Valley and Great Lakes regions get hammered with endless tornadoes and severe weather that day.

June 4: Even more severe weather and tornadoes in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The setup finally falls apart as the system crosses into the Atlantic and the low itself crosses extreme northern Quebec.

PLEASE tell me that was a joke post...

Southerngale and i were talking via aim, she said it's real windy in the beaumont area. She lost power twice but it came back on and now it looks like her power has gone out again.

Even though it's not texas, it sure is real windy here too in south central LA.

yeah, the beaumont area has been reporting gusts up to 35-40mph over the last hour. Behind the line of storms the winds should die a bit...but looking back west toward the hill country of Texas..it looks like the winds will pick up again. They are currently getting 20mph gusts in Austin, 26mph gusts in Fredricksburg, and 25mph gusts in Burnet. Up in N. Texas it is also getting windy with 20mph sustained and gusts to 25mph in Dallas, and 28mph gusts in Amarillo. Winds should increase across the state today with winds sustained at 15-25mph and gusts to 25-35mph common...especially from I-10 northward.

according to the SPC...places that see sunshine today will likely see storm redevelopment later on with the threats of damaging winds and large hail. The best chance of re-developent will likely be from a line from Brenham south the Victoria and north to Hugo, OK and eastward. All storms this afternoon should die by evening.

Plenty of sunshine here in Motgomery County but I'm fixing to head to the west end of Galveston this weekend.

I'm quite surprised about the lack of areal coverage with this squall line. It's basically just a thin line of storms on the southern end with no rain before or after the line. Hopefully we'll see some storm development before the line.

You're right CM, and we could see some heavy rains too as the squall line has slowed tremendously and storms are starting to "train".

I lost power for over an hour. Thank goodness it came back...I'm washing like a mad woman trying to get ready to leave for my cruise in the morning.

We had some pretty strong wind gusts...it was kinda skeery. Image

The rain was pretty light most of the day and then when it got really bad, about the time I lost power, it started pouring for a while...heavy rain. Had it lasted longer, we may have had some flash flooding because my yard was a lake! It's all drained now...the ground was really dry beforehand. Lots of thunder and lightning too.

And yep, Frick, that's what happened. It went off and on probably 12 times before going off and staying off.

The line has just gotten here, lots of lightning and heavy rain but it doesn't look like we'll have anything severe. Hopefully it sticks around long enough to give us a good soaking.

WOW is it coming down or what?! I estimate we've already had 1" and by the looks of the radar we could easily see another 1-2" as this line "trains' over the area for at least another hour.

Looking at Grlevelx from the Fort Polk radar site, it has estimates of upto 7" around the Lafayette area. Not that this method is all that accurate, but even the NOLA site which is farther away is showing upto 4".

Looks like you are almost out of the worst there at least :)

We've gotten an insane amount of rain this afternoon, I think more than anyone expected.
